Guest shelbygirl07
I have never dealt with as many ticks so far this year then in the last 10 years. The little ones seem to be the targets of the ticks. I found ONE on Shelby and that's when we were on our walk at the bike path and she squatted and peed in a bunch of high grass. I check them after our walks and it was actually on her girlie part. I had to pluck it off. That has been the only tick I have found on her this year. SO far I have had a total of 5 ticks on Louie and 17 on Sweet Pea. Sp has far more hair then Louie so they seem to cling to her. She has had the lepto shot and is on Revolution and Advantix. Louie is also on Revolution and Advantix but has not had the lepto shot since with his health issues, the doctors were a little cautious about giving it to him. Some are coming from the bike path but most are coming from the back yard. We keep the grass short out side, we have mowed 3 times in 2 weeks because it grows like crazy. Since the little ones spend so much time close to the ground, they latch on and before you know it, they are scurrying their little blood sucking bodies around the body and looking for a place to latch on. Found one on SP at 3 am. It had just started latching on so i used my Tick Key to remove it. So I'm looking at getting Adams Plus Flea & Tick Yard Spray. which needs to be applied every 4 weeks and the dogs have to be restricted from the back yard for 24 hours after application. Has anyone used one of these products and found success at it? I am willing to try it (should since i sell it) but i have to tell you, I'm a little leery since i have 2 large veggie gardens also in the back yard.. Any input would be greatly appreciated... Guest rosebudd
I thought frontline was the only stuff that was also for ticks. Maybe I am mistaken but thats what I have my dogs on and we have had no ticks so far. Last year we only found maybe 2 the whole season. I dont use anything for my yard but I am interested in what people use.
Guest AaronsMom
I don't know but I pulled one off me (that had started to dig in) as well as my boy Aaron yesterday, so I'd also love to see if any others have recommendations for yard repellents. Aaron is on Frontline. I really wasn't happy finding that little guy on me - luckily it was a regular tick, not a deer tick, though I'm sure it can be just as hazardous. Guest gr84me
I live in a swampy wooded area and have great luck with Frontline Plus (not regular Frontline - it doesn't kill ticks).

Aerosmom
I agree -- the ticks this year in New England are unbelieveable. I just ordered some stuff for our yard called Vet-Kem Yard Spray -- Siphotrol. It's supposed to be safe for the dogs once it dries. It was expensive, but if it gets rid of most of the ticks it'll be worth it. We haven't applied it yet. We also use Frontline Plus almost year-round too. But I've noticed that the ticks take longer to die from the Frontline and if I've missed one crawling on the pups, it can feed long enough to bloat a little before the Frontline kills it. Does anyone else use siphrotrol? I've also read that you can buy little cardboard tubes with cotton balls treated wtih a tick-repellent/killer. The idea is mice will use the cotton balls to nest and subsequently the ticks will die right at the source. I think it's the same active ingredient as Advantix(or Advantage? I always screw up the name) , which is unsafe for cats though. Guest luckydog
Frontline won't keep the ticks from crawling onto the dogs. Yes, it'll kill them in a couple of days once they latch on and start sucking up the stuff that kills 'em. I caught two of the buggers on Hazel two days ago, just walking her in the suburban neighborhood we live in. Yeech! Are there any non-chemical ways to kill ticks in the grass/bushes? I thinking beneficial bugs or birds that love to eat ticks.
Guest brindlehounds
Are there any non-chemical ways to kill ticks in the grass/bushes? I thinking beneficial bugs or birds that love to eat ticks. Guinea fowl are supposed to be very good tick-eaters! I was looking into getting some for our property but haven't actually taken the plunge yet. I won't use yard sprays here because they will just kill all the other critters along with the ticks.
Guest shelbygirl07
my biggest concern is the veggie garden, what if it leeches into the soil and contaminates the veggies? I called my get to see if she had info and said the question was never asked before and to get a better answer, call the manufacturer. I am pretty sure the Adams only kills bugs and not any mamals or birds but I want as much info as possible before I take the chance!
Guest hermione
We use prevent tic collars on our dogs. Prevent Tic is the only collar you can use with a greyhound. We live in MA, once I saw our first tick (April) we put the collars on and have not seen one since. Although we used to use Frontline Plus, we found it cheaper and it lasts longer to use the collar.
