Guest celticfairiemom
Today was Frontline day for the girls and neither one wanted to cooperate <sigh> so , some - a very little - got on the fur instead of the skin. The little bit managed to soak their fur right near their shoulder blades - how do I go about getting it off? I have banned all the little ones from petting them for the day - which is making everyone unhappy - since I do not want them getting it on their hands (they are 3 years old and 10 months old) and putting their hands in their mouths. Is there anything I can do about it? How do you keep the stuff from getting everywhere? Callie has a fairly thin coat so it's hard to move the fur out of the way to put it on her. Tigerlilly has very thick fur so she is easier and it soaked into her skin but still -some gets to their fur. Our old guy used a flea collar so we never dealt with this. Any helpful hints would be appreciated.
BootsyCollins
Everytime I apply frontline it makes a big wet spot on their shoulder blades. I just avoid the area for the day and then brush them after about 24 hours. Seems to take care of it. I don't like to wipe it off right away in case it's needed for flea murder. NHNora
Nora runs between 52 and 56 pounds (depending on how picky she is about eating . . .) so the "dosage" we were buying went up to 88lbs and it was ridiculous! The stuff just ran all over. So last year I bought the small dosage (that goes up to 45lbs?) and used that. It worked just fine--she never got fleas, even though I work at doggie daycare, take her to pet stores, and the parks. I bought that smaller dosage again this year. I have also heard of people using only half the package when they buy the big dose. (But then you have to be able to store it safely somewhere.) Reading the fine print last time, I also noticed that the package says right on it, that testing showed that one dose lasted up to 3 months for fleas, but you must use it monthly for the tick-ingredients. We live in the city, so I'm going to stretch them out to last longer. I'm glad they work, but I still just hate the idea of putting gross chemicals on my dog! cello
That is why I use Advantage - less messy! I use the dose that goes up to 100 pounds, and split it between my two 58 and 65 pound girlies. Riley is 80 pounds so he gets his own tube. I probably only use it once every three months or so. Yucky stuff no matter what brand you use though. greyhoundlady
My skinny minnie girl has the same drip patch after applying Frontline Plus. If I know she will be with people right after applying the stuff, I put a bandana on her with the point extending over her shoulder blades. Kind of like a warning. Once the stuff is dry I brush her. She is also a major tick magnet, fortunately mostly white and therefore I can spot those buggers as they are crawling on her. Hate the chemicals but hate the crawly critters more. Guest celticfairiemom
I put a bandana on her with the point extending over her shoulder blades ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Oh that's a great idea!! I'll have to go shopping for some large bandanas! My 14 yo will get a kick out of picking out some colorful scarves for them. I don't think I can split the dose - Callie is 55 # and TL is 75# plus, we live in NY - otherwise known as tick haven. <blech>
Guest CBDTherapyDogs
Don't put it all in one spot! With my Greyhounds, I put a small dab behind the occiput (the bump on the back of the head, aka the knowlege knot) to help repel ear mites and ticks around the ears. Then I put a dab between the shoulder blades, then in the middle of the back, then above the tail between the hip bones. That way its spread out and its not all in one spot to "pool". As for splitting a dose, a 55lb and a 75lb Greyhound would get the same amount of Frontline Plus : 2.7CC's.
Guest anjeli
We put frontine plus on Esme last night. I saw a flea crawling on her this afternoon. How fast does this stuff work? I'd used advantage on my cats before and that stuff works really fast. And how does the stuff work? I put it between the shoulder blades but the fleas(or flea dirt) are down near her butt/tail. You can always call up your vet (or group) and get a Capstar pill. That kills fleas in 30 minutes.
