stlgrey
I noticed some stains on the cover that I use on my bed to keep the dogs from ruining my good down cover lately. It looks like a water stain. I noticed another one last night when Ali had gotten off of the bed after laying there for about an hour. The stain is clear and no odor to it. I have been noticing that she has been drinking more water lately and needing to go out more in the middle of the night. She had to go last night at 2 am. She has never had a problem with incontinence. From reading other posts from before on here, I am suspecting a UTI, but we will have the vet determine what it is. She goes tonight after work. I hope that is all she has...she had a disasterious dental in Nov. 2007.
Guest Greyhoundbaby
Julie suffers from the same issue - it's not a UTI just muscle control. She takes 1/2 Proin twice a day and hasn't had any issues since!
Guest greyvettech
There are a couple medications that can treat incontenence.such as Proin(Phenopropanaliamine) or D.E.S-.but if her urine is dilute and she is urinating/drinking more than normal, I would do bloodwork on her (cbc/chemistry panel) Usually this happens when the kidneys are not functioning correctly...Usually, with an UTI, they will urinate very small amounts frequently because they always have the urge to go...I think she needs the Vet.. Good luck...
Guest lizmego
I'd also recommend a visit to a chiropractor and/or holistic vet before placing her on Proin/PPA, if your vet suggests that. I've known two greyhound owners whose dogs were on PPA and they each had collapsed and their heart and breathing stopped - one greyhound got to a vet in time to be placed on oxygen, the other was not so lucky since her owners were not at home when she initially collapsed. Guest lapatte
we have that problem. hima is now on propalin and it's working really well. we just have to figure out why her urine is diluted... we've done blood work (300$!!) and everything seems fine... weird... good luck! nat
stlgrey
Ali went to the vet and they did a complete blood work up and it came back normal. The urine test will be back tomorrow to see if she has a UTI. I told the vet that I noticed she was drinking more and more water when I started to give her Chondrotin tablets that I purchased. This was about 6 weeks ago. The vet said it probably had to high of salt content in it. The vet and I agreed that she should not be given that particular brand of chondrotin any longer. I think that this has caused Ali's bladder problem. Drinking tons of water and having to pee constantly. The vet has recommened Proin for her 2x per day. I have seen some posts with side effects for SOME dogs, but my mom's airdale has been taking this for her leaking since age 3 and she is 10 now with no problems. I am also going to look at some holistic options as well. Edited March 25, 2008 by stlgrey
