Guest redelle
I took Dudlee to the beach yesterday I got sunburned but the worst thing is Dudlee has this weird rash on his neck. I was wondering if anyone has seen a sore like this on a greyhound before? I'm using an ointment creme on him (which my vet told me to use for sally on her cuts) but it still looks sore and red (its quite bumpy too)
Guest salov
Could it be a jelly fish sting?
Guest lotsagreys4me
Could it be sunburned and tender and that is where his tags rub???
Guest jettcricket
....Hard to say what it is....it looks very weepy. I probably would take his collar off inside so it doesn't rub or irritate it and let the air get to it.
grey14me
I too, would take the collar off until it heals up. maybe he got a bunch of sand under the collar and just rubbed it raw? Guest redelle
Dudlee has been nude (without collar for 2 days now) its healing i think cause its gone all crusty, I think it was like you said grey14me sand probably got in his collar and rubbed. What kind of collar should I take next time so it doesn't happen again?
Guest Spiff
Many of the collar makers in the vendor's section of Greytalk make collars that are lined with satin - they are much friendlier to necks with little to no hair, like Dudley's! You can also buy little tag bags that keep the tags from dangling.
Batmom
That looks more like a burn than anything. If you're going to be out in the sun for any length of time, I'd get a leather tag bag to keep hot tags from hitting his neck, and use some sunscreen on pupper. Also watch for overheating. Laur
I would say the tag got overheated and burnt your poor pupper. Very nasty looking.
Guest lotsagreys4me
White dogs can really get burned in the sun. Get some sun block for the next trip to the beach. I use sunblock for kids and I thnk it is #45. It was the highest protection I could find
MerlinsMum
Ugh, that looks nasty! Hope your pup feels better soon. I agree with the sunblock idea. Guest greyfiend
I'm so sorry to see your pup like that. If the tag got hot and caused a burn you might try something that my dog wears on his tags called "Quiet Spot" Pet Tag Silencers-a neoprene "case" that fits over the tags so they don't "jingle". They're about $8.00 or so at quietspot.com or at local resellers. The word "quietspot" is also reflective so it helps a little with night time visibility. Good luck with your doggy. Hope it heals soon.
