My new boy Freddy had his first vet visit since his arrival on Thursday; just a routine check. His heart rate is 29!! My other grey's is 52. I looked on Dr Stacks site as well as OSU but am a bit confused. Those in the know...is this normal in a 2 year old straight off the farm? Thanks for any input.

Straight off the farm? That's the key. The cardio training he's had is world-class. The stronger the heart, the fewer the contractions it requires to fulfill its obligations, so to speak. I have a foster fresh off the farm, and I should go check him, but I'm sure it'd be under 40 when calm.

My bridgekid Mulder's resting heart rate was 30, he never raced and was never race fit....we lost him to congestive heart failure at 8 years old. I have no idea whether there was any connection, vets never said he had anything wrong with his heart until the day he was pts(they misdiagnosed his CHF as kennel cough). I will let you make of it what you will. Current girl Sadi's heart rate is in the 40's.

Yes, straight from the farm. He didn't qualify to race but I assume he had just finished schooling.

I'm so sorry, that seems far to young. Thanks so much for the info. and I think I'll do some further checking. I can be a bit of a Nervous Nelly at times. :unsure
