beledi
Sam punctured my albuterol inhaler when I went to the kitchen to get a cup of coffee, yesterday morning. I took him to the vet who said he would be fine. He did vomit his breakfast on the way to the vet. He seemed restless, last night, and had a rapid heartbeat which they said was normal for the situation. He seems to be o.k. , this morning, except for some whinning, which he never does. He has eaten breakfast and had a normal bowel movement. Should I be concerned? The inhaler was Pro Air. They did give him bordatella and deworm med. Thanks Edited March 6, 2008 by beledi Quote "Then God sent the Greyhound to live among man and remember. Guest greybookends
I don't use inhalers but I have seen some posts on them and it seems that they are deadly to hounds. So I would make sure to keep them out of the reach of your hounds. I'm sure that those that know more on the subject will check in shortly. I'm glad you Sam is doing ok. PatricksMom
Albuteral inhalers usually have a lot of caffeine in them, so that would probably explain the high heart rate, jitterness etc. If he's been checked by a vet, and seems to be improving, I would continue to watch him but not worry too much. Guest lizmego
What was their easoning for the Bordatella and de-worming med for a dog that got albuterol in his system? Did they say?
Guest sheila
I think if this happened yesterday morning and he was seen by a vet he is probably going to be just fine now. I too am surprised that a vet would give any vaccination or other medical treatment at that point in time.
beledi
Thanks to all who answered. He spent the morning at the vet so they could watch him. The other meds were given since he was due for his yearly exam, today. So, he came in a day early. His bloodwork, today, looks fine. Quote "Then God sent the Greyhound to live among man and remember. silverfish
I'm so glad to hear he's fine. I can remember at least two cases where the dog died, after a couple of days of trying to save them. Maybe the inhalers were full, and yours nearly empty? Anyway, thank heavens he's alright! beledi
The inhaler was almost empty, Thank God! It holds 200 doses, for a human, so that could have been a disaster. Samlur is doing well this morning. The muzzle will be going on even if I have to leave him for a second. I have a muzzle for the bedroom and in the living room.
