Spud has a cut on his nose.

I've been keeping it clean but haven't put any antibiotic ointment or anything like that as I don't want him licking it all off.

dribble a little hydrogen peroxide on it, several times a day......it will help keep the cut clean way down deep

poor guy....I would just keep it clean..if you have any ab ointment it may stay on a little better but, yes, chances are he'll just lick it off....

Ouch! You can try the antibiotic ointment, it won't hurt him at all if he ingests it. Grace licks her wounds, Fenway leaves his alone. Maybe Spud would leave his alone??? I also try to put that stuff on when they are sleepy and are about to nap for at least a few hours. If you are worried about infection you might see if your vet will give some oral antibiotics, just in case. I always get extras from the vets now as they trust my judgement on when their wounds need attention and when they don't. Might be worth a call.

I'm sure if you keep it clean he'll be alright though.

Feel better soon!

Teagan had a nasty cut on his nose last year (cat claw). The amount of blood that came out of that thing. My house looked like a murder scene! :eek

I just left it alone and it healed over fine. :) It left a pale scar for a month or so (pic below), but that went away.

Ouch! Poor Spud, do you know how he managed to do that ? I'd just keep it clean, and keep a close eye on it for infection, but it looks OK to me at the moment.

He broke the pyrex pie plate last night in his attempt to eat my cornbread... there's another thread floating around here somewhere... all is better tonight though, the nose isn't bleeding anymore (thank God!) and there seems to be no ingested glass.

Oh dear! Pyrex breaks into nasty sharp splinters too, so I can well see how he did it. I'd better watch that, Joe always carries a big Pyrex dish into the lounge after I've given him the milk I've cooked fish in, and I don't want anymore injuries at the moment! Hope Spud heals up soon, give that boy some scritches from me.

Oooh poor Spud. That's some slice. I'd rinse it with one of the "ouchless" washes you can buy at the drugstore. I have a few bottles of Band-Aid Antiseptic brand floating around to clean nicks and cuts. It's sterile, in a convenient squeeze bottle, and much less painless than alcohol or hydrogen peroxide (and doesn't have the tissue damaging effects of the latter). I'd watch his nose for swelling or infection, but past that he'd most likely lick anything off.

You can't stick a sock on their noses, can you? ;)

No, and I can't tape his mouth shut either

The rinse is a great idea, and I'll pick one up in the morning.

Angie, Spud knocked it off the kitchen counter (his first attempt at counter surfing and it's a doozy). Scritches have been dispensed and now it's off to bed :nappy
