Guest NeedleNoseLuvR
Well, Lacey decided to go for a unauthorized run around the neighborhood this morning. She slipped through the gate when I went to take out the trash. Luckily, she kept running laps around me (I was calling her and whistling.). She didn't just take off at a straight run. However, on the last lap she ran through a front yard where two T-posts were set about 10 feet apart with a wire strung between them about 2 feet off the ground. She saw the wire at the last minute and tried to clear it but it caught her right front leg. I called her again and she ran to me. Now she needs stitches for a triangular tear just above her right wrist. It's not real bad and she's walking on the leg so that seems to be the only injury. I put a gauze pad over the wound, vet wrapped it in place and drove her to my vet. Lacey's a bit of a drama queen so at the vet's she would hold up her leg to show everyone her owwie. Of course, everyone gave her lots of attention and she loved every minute of it. The groomers even came up front to see and fuss over her. (Winter of 2006-2007 I had a house fire and had to board all my animals there for 5 months so they all know Lacey.) Since, she has to be put under to stitch up the tear they're going to clean her teeth while she's under. One time under anesthesia instead of later coming back and putting her under again for the dental. So now I'm sitting here nervous as all get out over the anesthesia. My vet knows about sighthounds and their sensitivity to anethesia so I'm confident in him, but I still worry. (This same vet has taken care of the 3 salukis and the other greyhound I've had over the years.) I'm also mad at myself for not being more careful with the gate and I keep thinking about how bad it could have been it she had hit that wire straight on. I guess I just want to share with other people who understand what it's like to worry about a beloved companion who's not 'just a dog'. Guest ProudGreyMom
Oh poor baby!!! I hope she is okay and you have a great report from the vet. Its hard not to worry even if you totally trust the vet. Heck, I worry when they go for a heartworm test, we just love them so much.
Guest NeedleNoseLuvR
Lacey's home! Everything went fine. The vet wants the bandage/wrap to stay on until Saturday. Her teeth are in great shape and now shiny white. I bought her a Cuz toy and a rope chew toy to distract her from the bandage - so far no interest in the toys or the bandage. Of course, her gums may be a bit sore. But she's home and she's fine.
Guest houndlover
Glad to hear that Lacey is home and doing well. It is always nerve racking when any of my animals have to go under anesthesia for something so I can completely understand where you are coming from. Don't beat yourself up over her slipping through the gate. It happens to the best of us.
Guest NeedleNoseLuvR
Thank you all for the good wishes. I just glad she will only have a little scar to show for her adventure this morning.

Guest NeedleNoseLuvR
Batmom, thank you for asking about Lacey. She's doing great this morning. Last night she slept with me so I could make sure she didn't chew on the bandage. So far she has left it alone. This morning she confiscated the rope bones and won't share.
