krissn333
Fritz is laying here on the floor and his stomach is making all kinds of crazy noises...it almost sounds like a bear growling I don't know if he's just got gas or what the deal is, but this is unlike him. They ate dinner around 5 and have been out 3 times since then. Odd for any of them to have funny sounding tummies at bedtime... I've been thinking of switching their food from ProPlan Sensitive Skin & Stomach to the Avoderm, not sure what formula yet but I think they have a Sensitive tummy formula of some sort...they don't seem to be getting as much out of the ProPlan as they used to... Guest sweetpea
Oh boy, I know that gurgly sound all too well. I used to tell people it sounded like she swallowed a little live animal. It would happen once a week, growly tummy, no appetite, gooey stinky (stinkier than normal) poop, then she'd be fine after the poop. After we ended up at the E-vet with bloody poop, I put her on a bland diet and started from scratch. I have spent months trying to figure out how to abolish the gurgly tummy. I wish I could tell you the absolute cure, I wish I knew it for myself. After much trial and error, I finally found a food that agreed with her, no gurgles, good solid poop, no gas; and what do you know, out of the blue, she hunger strikes-won't eat that food anymore. period. (aaaarrrrgggghhhhh!) Long story long, now when I hear the growly gurgles, I give her a dollop of cream cheese with 1 pepcid (10 mg) in it, it seems to help. We're still looking for the perfect food, but at least the pepcid keeps her eating, and keeps us out of the Evet. Guest Hollys2hounds
I too know all about the tummy gurgles. My vet reccommended Imodium. I said, "at the moment there is no diarrhea, just gurgles..." and the vet said give it anyway. IT WORKS WONDERS!!! The first time I used it, within 15 minutes--- the gurgles quieted down, and 2 hours later gave another, and then the gurgles went away completely. If it doesn't work within that 2-3 hour span, then we have to go to "Plan B" which usually means more than gurgles... and then then the "diarrhea diet" and in worse case--- a trip to the vet. But I would give it a try. Good luck!
NeylasMom
My vet recently recommended gas-x - Neyla's having this issue in response to her increase in glucosamine/chondroitin. I'm going to try adding probiotics first though as she's raw fed and I'd rather not give her medication if I can avoid it. Guest greytelectric
My greys get gurgly, only after I feed raw! They don't seem to have gas however - at least no farting that I can tell. And they sleep right through it, although it is typically so loud it wakes ME up! Never thought of Gas-Ex or Immodium. How much do you give? Guest jenmm
Bernie's been getting a gurgly tummy lately, too.
krissn333
What's strange is it almost sounded like his stomach was growling, but he had eaten all of his dinner. I wonder if the ProPlan is just not satisfying them anymore. After I posted he was passing gas pretty frequently but oddly it didn't stink at all (as soon as I heard it I thought oh jeez here we go, but, fortunately, no stink!) I did give him a pepcid and it seemed to shut up his tummy. I gave him a little extra food at dinnertime and no gurgly tummy tonight. I think when we get closer to finishing this bag off we'll do some looking around at Petco. Any recommendations? We've tried ProPlan Beef and Rice, ProPlan sensitive skin and tummy, Solid Gold Mmillenia, and Solid Gold Holistique Blendz...Ace used to eat Natural Blend by Royal Canin, but they don't make it anymore. We have what I would consider a lot of restrictions here too...Ace and Fritz I KNOW cannot do anything with lamb, Fritz can't do chicken and I am guessing Turkey would cause the same result (squirty poops). Pinky has lupus and thus has dry skin, I don't know about her needs as far as lamb and chicken go since I've never fed either to Ace and Fritz after knowing how they react...and Skimmie had a hard time pooping when he came to me. His poops are very good quality on the ProPlan sensitive skin & tummy so I hate to switch him from that. He does have BIG poops though for such a little guy...the circumference is almost as big as the big kids' poop! Maybe we'll try the ProPlan beef and rice again and see how Pinky and Skimmie do...Ace and Fritz did well on it but I switched them when Ace started having all of her kidney troubles...since she seems back to normal now and lost so much weight on the low protein food we put her back on a "regular" kibble. Guest sweetpea
Oh, these pups, they do make us crazy! Sweetpea never had gurgles after she ate, they would start at 5 or 6 am (wake me up they were so loud) and then I'd know it was going to be a tough day food-wise. I used to give her bread for the gurgles, first it worked, then she boycotted the bread. I will definitely keep the imodium in mind, because the gurgles (if I can't get them under control) eventually lead to diarhea. My problem with the gurgles is that everything I've tried has worked at first; then the next time, it doesn't work so well, OR she won't eat it. That's why I'm trying to find a food cure. That's why I was so excited when Natural Balance (canned) Chicken seemed to be that cure. Until she decided she wouldn't eat it anymore She will eat Nutro (canned) turkey dinner, but it's making her gurgly. I'm working on transitioning her to Solid Gold hunden-flocken (won't work for Ace & Fritz, lamb), so far so good. I don't know, it's all just a guess at this point, I think now I'm grateful that I just have the one fuss-budget to deal with. Good luck Buzzy and the lovely and exasperating Sweetpea
