Simple Sneeze Or Something More?

Hi All,

 

So Riley has been "sneezing" - well, I think it is sneezing - for about 7-10 days now. I caught him on camera last night...

He "sneezes" several times, including one finally after DW turns down Morley Safer at about the 30 second mark.

 

Is something to be concerned about? We are heading off for a week's vacation this Sunday (Cancun - warm temps, here we come!) and are leaving Riley with one of the most Greyhound knowledgeable people in Manitoba so we are not overly worried about his care whilst away, but are concerned before we leave.

 

Further to this video, today I got home from work and eventually found that he had a nosebleed?! He might have hurt his schnauze opening his kennel were DW is "hiding" treats lately, or I am not sure how else. I found a couple of blood drips in various places, but it seems to have stopped now. (I called the vets office, and was told to try to put a cold compress on his nose... he was much more interested in licking the face-cloth rathe t han letting me put it on his nose!)

 

He is currently resting comfortably in front of the fireplace...the direction was to try to keep him calm... so easy with a GH... turn on tv, watch dog sleep

 

So, given the sneezing and possible related nosebleed... anything to be worried about?

Looks like just a reverse sneeze to me. Happens to Echo all the time (usually when she eats or drinks too fast), and it's really nothing to worry about.

Well, I watched the video and I'm not convinced that he's just reverse sneezing. It almost looks like he has a post nasal drip. Usually, when they r.s. it's a bit more rapid. The blood you found is a little alarming--it certainly warrants keeping an eye on things. Hope it's nothing more than just allergies but, I'm sure you'll have him to the vet if the symptoms persist.

An update: The nose bleed stopped very quickly. Apparently, he did just injure himself trying to get into his kennel where treat-skies were hiding. We'll leave the door a bit more ajar in future. He did enjoy licking the face cloth that was supposed to be a cold compress, however.

 

I have attached a better lighted video from this morning. Trying not to be too hypochondriacal over this, but am concerned.

Alan's reverse sneezes are not like that. Not sure what that is.

That's not a reverse sneeze. A reverse sneeze would involve a quick intake of breath through the nose, then letting it explode immediately through the mouth. A reverse sneeze sounds a lot like an asthma attack, but without the wheezing

Any new foods or meds? The reason I am asking...Cody Angelo did the same type of sneezing that escalated to 60-70 sneezes at a time. His nose was bleeding from banging his little nose on the floor as he sneezed. His was an allergic reaction to an antibiotic...he had to be hospitalized as he then started seizing. Angel Sophia also sneezed like this and had a nosebleed when I once changed her glucosamine...Dr. Beth said it was for sure an allergic type reaction.

Hmm, nothing new med-wise. We have added a new treat food - Canadian Naturals Turkey and Salmon, but he only gets 5 or 7 kibbels of these a day.

 

Sent the Youtube link to our vet and she wants him to come in to see her. Our appointment is for Thursday afternoon.

 

Here's hoping it is something minor.

Leia reverses sneezes too, nothing like that. You are correct in going to the vet. If it were a person it would be an allergie or a cold, but a dog,,,,, shoot that's not my forte.
