Guest Lala
Ms. Nuala has a read rash in her groin/lower stomach/pelvis area. She has always been kind of red there, but within the past week it seems to have gotten worse and spread down her legs. The skin looks dry, but she does not seem itchy and I don't think she has been at it at all. Does this look like a food allergy to anyone? If not, any other ideas? Guest Tenderhearts
Looks more like possibly environmental, like a contact dermatitis, but I can't say for sure. With any of my dogs who've had food allergies, it's usually manifested in ear infections, or chewing on the feet and rubbing the face on the floor (not to be confused with 'cleaning' the face on the floor ). Since it doesn't seem to be itchy, I don't really know what to recommend Have you changed laundry detergents, used a new carpet freshener, anything new that her skin there might be in contact with? Guest Lala
I have changed laundry detergents. I have kind of a cheapo brand right now. Hmmmm. Nuala also has a bit of a strange odor, too. If it spreads more or gets inflamed, I think I'll call the vet. She doesn't seem at all bothered by it at all.

I'd be suspect of the new laundry detergent. I'd also recommend a bath with a shampoo that has an oatmeal base to it-soothing and gentle to the skin. You can also used an aloe based gel to apply to the rash. That's interesting that she does have a bit of an odor to her because things like seborrhea and food allergy reactions can cause a smell. Raven is prone to seborrhea, so we have a medicated dog shampoo we use here. She definitely has an odor when it flares up. Has she been getting any kind of new treats? My brain's working for a change
Guest Lala
I looked at google images at seborrhea. It sort of looks like that, but its not flaky. I'll try the bath with oatmeal. She has some new rawhide chewies, too. They are US made. Thanks for the help, DeVon!
Guest LindsaySF
It might be yeast, especially if she is licking a lot there. The cause could be allergies, food or environmental. But when you said odor, yeast is the first thing that comes to mind for me.
Guest greytmonty
I am thinking yeast or a skin infection. I would go to the vet soon to get skin cultures and scrapings, these things are treatable but can go on and on without the proper med. sweetdogs
I have changed laundry detergents. I have kind of a cheapo brand right now. Hmmmm. When my boy was itchy, I was advised to use a laundry detergent without enzymes. So I use natural stuff from the health food store. I also avoid fragrances - avoid it for myself now too. Probably doesn't make his bedding & coats as sparkling, but anything is better than skin irritation. Quote Deirdre with Conor (Daring Pocobueno), Keeva (Kiowa Mimi Mona), & kittehs Gemma & robthomas.
