Guest laddie4
i am aware that i am a fretful new daddy, so i'm concerned about everything i consider out of the ordinary. Miller has a bald spot on his but that definitely wasn't there a few days ago. it an oval about 1 inch by 2.5. no abrassion or trauma. just an absolutely smooth bald oval on his right upper hind quarter. the skin is pink and healthy looking. i just can't go to the Vet for every little thing. he does have a follow up in about a week so if no change i will ask her then, but in the mean time anyone gt any ideas what it might be? Sighthounds4me
Might be the beginning of "bald thights," as he sheds his track coat? How long have you had him? Guest GreyFox
Nice bum!! Our Doodles has the exact same thing. She came to us with a nice fuzzy butt, and then she developed a little bald spot like Miller has, and then another on the other side - probably after we'd had her for a couple of months. We got her in October and it was during the winter that the bald spots appeared - I attributed it to losing her kennel coat and adjusting to the Canadian winter. It never went any further than that, she has been to the vet and received a clean bill of health, so I don't worry about it. I know how you feel ... last Fall and Winter I worried about every little thing, including those little bald spots. I'm more relaxed now! Guest EmilyAnne
Henry is getting one on his bum too. Looks exactly like your grey's. (I can get a picture if you want) Except Henry is a greyhound mix, not a pure greyhound, and he was never track raced. (he was lkely raced in coondog trials, which is a whole 'nother thing)
GreyWrangler
does he wag his tail to one side more than the other? My dog red has two similer spots from wagging too much, lol. Other than that a nice fuzzy butt. Jiffer
As long as it's not red or sore, I wouldn't be too concerned. My guess is that he's shedding his fuzzy coat and working on his pet coat. Guest EmilyAnne
I wonder is this is something more common in red/fawn colored dogs? Henry is a fawn/reddish color, the op's dog is red and I am guessing Greywrangler's grey 'Red' is a red grey too. I also wonder if the balding is just basically like the same kind of balding human men experience? Which leads me to wondering also, is this something more common in male greys perhaps? Guest charmsmom
I don't think it's color-related. Charm is a red male and his bum is wonderfully fuzzy! No bald spots. Is it a hot spot maybe? They can get them from just licking. Paris very nearly licked her butt bald in a spot after I brought her home. She was just adjusting. Guest KsFrets
Maggy's got the same, in the same spot...on both sides. Had them when we got him. They aint getting any worse, if anything they are growing over. He's a power tail wagger, so that might be it.

macoduck
Our Gracie had completely bald thighs when we got her. She butt hair has grown in thickly except for a spot on each cheek similar to your picture. When she's hot from running the skin blushes. We call them brake lights.
