Guest Jamie
We got the call we've been waiting for yesturday. Harley does have bone cancer, no apparent fractures. They could do a biopsy to find out exactly what kind of cancer, but the vet said it would be extreamly painful. This weekend we will be going over all the options that we know of. We are going to try and put our "feelings" aside and choose what's best for Harley. Our next step is going to be....Taking a chest x-ray to see if has spread into the lungs. If it hasn't spread into the lungs we are leaning very heavily on doing an amputation and chemo treatments. I honestly don't know what to do/say....I've got to many thoughts and options running through my head along with tears. All I know is that I want to do right by him and make him as comfortable/happy as I possibly can. This weekend is going to be my "cram" time, reading up on as much info as I can from beginning to end, from doing nothing to amputation+chemo+radiation, and anything else I can find pertaining to this situation. Any suggestions, information, stories, links, ect. are greatly welcomed! Thank you for listening, Jamie P.S. Kelly next time I see you I'll have the collar I borrowed ready to give back. I stopped by Treats Unlimited today and bought him a new one, along with some extra special cookies.

Guest Mom2Gr8dawgs
I'm sorry. I've been in your position a couple of times. It's so hard to make a decision like this, but just do what you believe is right for Harley and your family and that will be the right thing. I recommend that you join the Circle of Grey Yahoo group HERE . There are a lot of people there who have been in the same situation and will be able to help you know all of your options. Burpdog
It's a lot to take in. Were the xrays read by a specialist? Guest MorganKonaAlex
Unfortunately, I had 2 of dogs diagnosed with Osteo in 2006. With pain management only, the median life expectancy is 2 months. With amputation alone, it's 5 months. With amputation and chemo, it's 12-14 months. With Morgan, he started limping on a Friday night. Sunday morning, I had to coax him to come down the stairs. His front leg broke when he landed at the bottom of the stairs. That's how we find out he had osteo and started out crash course. His front leg was amputated and he had 4 rounds of Carboplatin. The good news is that was 2 years ago this week-end and he's still with us. We don't do follow-up xrays, but he doesn't show any signs of mets. He was 10.5 years old when his leg broke. 10 months later, Alex was limping and xrays were not conclusive. He had a bone biopsy and osteo was diagnosed. He had his rear leg amputated and started chemo. After the 3rd chemo, he didn't bounce back and developed a cough. I asked for an xray and it showed lung mets. We tried an experimental treatment but still had to euthanize him 2-3 week later. He was 8 years old. In hindsight, I would NOT do a bone biopsy again. Alex was in a lot of pain afterwards. I underestimated the amount of pain it would cause. Talk to an Vet Oncologist to get your treatment options. Regular Vets don't seem to know the current prognosis and stats. Guest Jamie
Thank you everyone for your support and information! Burpdog- The x-ray were seen by my 2 regular vets, then they sent them to a radiologist. When I talked with one of my vets Dr. Pam I had told her about Dr. Couto. She said she had no problems sending the x-rays there, but assured me that they sent them off to a very good radiologist. When I call back on Monday I will be requesting that they be sent to him as a second opinion and possible suggestions on the route we should take. MKA- Thank you for your personal experiance with this, I appreciate it. Thanks, Jamie
