Guest BrindleDad
So yesterday it started again. This is the second time my girl has gotten these. Usually after 3 to 4 days they are gone. She's getting these really messy eye boogers. They only show up in one eye and it's white/grey and very runny. They look like oysters (sorry, best description I can come up with). Anyone else ever get these or see them? Is it just an eye infection that will clear up? Her eye seems fine and she's not irritated by it other than she looks like a mess. Every couple of hours I have to wipe it from her eye. Last time after a couple of days they went away so I never took her into the vet. Guest lizmego
Could just be allergies and her eyes are watering more. Dell is having this occur right now, but his eye boogers are dark, like mud. 2 Benedryl tablets and it clears up nicely.
Guest Tenderhearts
My old lab mix gets those, especially on windy days or when there is a lot of pollen in the air. They look just like you described. They were also much worse when I first took her in (she was my oldest daughter's dog till April 2005), but after good food, rest, de-fleaing and worming, she has that much less now
Guest BrindleDad
The strange thing is I've had my girl almost two years. These have never showed up until earlier this year and then again recently. Her eye is watery so maybe it is just allergies. When I got home from work today she had some clumps. When I went to clear her eye and her eye lid pulled back a little I noticed her eye ball was more red then normal. Maybe she got something in her eye. Thanks for the feedback. Guest Ola
Chaos had a lot of eye goop last weekend which is very unusual for her. Upon closer inspection I found that she had a tiny sliver of grass in her eye - it had just worked it's way to the edge, otherwise I would never have seen it. Guest mandm
My dog recently had one goopy eye. I took him to the vet, who thought he probably had conjuctivitis or pink eye. I put prescription ointment in the eye for a few days and it cleared up.
GeorgeofNE
If your dog has a tendency to "oyster boogers," (I loved that description!) you can get a tube of eye antibiotic ointment from your vet to have on hand. Usually two or three days of those clears it right up. I have a Siamese cat who has chronic eye boogers, and I ALWAYS have some on hand. George has the typical dark crusty boogers. Nothing serious. It's funny though--when I clean them off, the tear duct area (if he were a person) is all pink skin, so he actually looks better from a distance with his boogers!
