Guest greybookends
Please pray that I am over reacting!! Yesterday when Sheana was laying on the couch I noticed a sort of puffiness in her neck. I really didn't pay it to much attention except that it looked like when she layed down she had a double chin of sorts. Well this morning when she was sitting for her breakfast I noticed this! It is only of one side. I have given her a benadryl in case it is something she got into. I have seen the pictures of Lacey Lanes neck and when I saw this my heart stopped jumped skipped and raced all at once. My mind is going in fifty million places all at once and I am scared! I am going to call my vet just as soon as he opens. Bill is supposed to get his stitches out tomorrow morning. I am going to see if they can do it today and see Sheana at the same time. Please let it be a blocked salivary gland or something totally stupid and just a case of my imagination running away with me. She is eating fine and otherwise acting fine. The lump is the size of a walnut. It is not hard. Please let it be nothing. I am rambling now. Please say a prayer for my girl. :hope :hope :hope Edited September 24, 2007 by greybookends

Guest longdogs
William had something that looked very similar. I took him to the vet and they suggested it was a cyst, but a couple of days later it grew quickly, was painful and William was unwell. Back to the vet and he was scheduled for surgery the same day to drain an abscess. Sheana's is lower than Williams and might be a tooth abscess (if that's what it is). I think William's was from a small but deep claw wound from a cat he'd caught a few days before.

She could use a little scaling but not bad. She eats a raw diet so her teeth are good.

BauersMom
We had that once and it was only on one side - turned out to be his tonsils! Yes, dogs have tonsils and yes they get infected too. It was a relatively easy treatment - they put in a drain and a round of ATBs. Quote With Buster Bloof (UCME Razorback 89B-51359) and Gingersnap Ginny (92D-59450). Burpdog
It looks like it could be a blocked gland or maybe just an infection. Don't get too paranoid yet. I mention Ivey because you have to tell them so they will be more cautious about the diagnosis. I mention Ivey because you have to tell them so they will be more cautious about the diagnosis. I am sooo trying to remain calm! I am having trouble however. The vet opens at 9 but I can usually get a call in at 8 and they are VERY good about getting in quickly. They are not as busy as most vets and I have been going there for almost 20 years. Guest Snowy8
Maybe its the same thing BuyCut has...a saliva gland that won't empty fast enough. It started out like that...now he has a goozle... Please don't worry...she's going to be okay.
Guest DanTheMan
Dylan had a swelling on his neck a couple of months ago too. He had a fluid filled swelling and his lymph node was huge! He got in a little bit of a tussle with a golden retriever we were watching for friends the night before we noticed the swelling but there was no wound, not even a little scratch. The vet said it was probably an infection since only one lymph node was swollen. It cleared up after about a week on antibiotics.
