Hobbes had a very good night at the e-vet. When I called to check on him at 5:00 am, he had slept quite a bit and the fever was down to 102.4. He stood up on his own to go outside to bathroom and although his legs are wobbly, there is no knuckling under of the back feet.

We just picked him up at the e-vet and he looks so much better. The fevered, confused, lost look is gone and he is calm and content on his bed here at home for the morning. This afternoon we will drive him to the Animal Neurologist in Portland, Maine for either a CAT-Scan or MRI to see what further diagnosis there is. Once we see what is happening in neurological terms, we'll have an idea of the cause (I hope).

I don't know where this will all be going but it is so good to have these extra moments with him in his usual place, looking very happy and glad to be with us. He is such a sweet boy and at almost 13-1/2 years he is very fragile right now.

Please keep sending those good thoughts - they seem to be working!!!!!!!

As I am typing this, Hobbes is home on his bed, very exhausted from the last 24 hours, but content and relieved to be here. The neurologist examined him and concluded that he was showing normal responses for a dog recovering from vertigo but did not believe, at this point, that a brain tumor was involved. She did feel after reviewing his record of sensitivity to medication that the Proin was most likely responsible for the increased vertigo or neural incidents this week. (and she commented that she has treated several dogs with a reaction to Proin) She has placed him on antibiotics for what she feels is a UTI staph infection. An MRI was not warranted today based on his physical presentation at the clinic.

We will monitor him for any signs that show he is suffering vertigo or a neurological event and then set up an MRI with the specialist at that time. However, if he continues to recover and there are no further incidents, we will know without a doubt that the Proin was the cause in this case.

As you can imagine, we are greatly relieved and incredibly blessed to have him back with us again after bracing for the worst news.

Thank you all for your good thoughts and wishes - today has been a very good day after all!

Oh Mary I just read your update and am glad to see there could be a definitive, possibly temporary reason for this. Sending all good thoughts Hobbes' way!

That's great news! To have him home, and have some reassurance on his condition, is wonderful. I hope he feels better soon.

Thank you Mary - whatever tomorrow brings, we are very happy with the results of today's exam. I appreciate all your good wishes for Hobbes. Hugs to Dreamer.

To quote a talented friend of mine..........."Today is not the day"!!!

Continue to get better Hobbes!!

Oh Nancy, never have the words in that poem been more meaningful to me. They kept running thru my mind all day as I was wishing and praying that today would not be the day we would be saying goodbye to Hobbes. Sometimes wishes do come true!! Thanks for your good thoughts.
