Really depends on how hydrated they are. Just like people, if they're drinking enough water and kidneys are functioning well....it'll be relatively clear....the less hydrated....the deeper the colour. If you're giving a medication it can change the colour too. If it's really dark repeatedly, I'd check with a vet and make sure that all is ok.
