Guest MotherofBaby
Tony just came in from a run around the yard and I noticed he was bleeding . On the outside of the left front leg just a smidge above the paw is something sticking out. It looks soft. He is not gushing blood but when he walks its a pad size smudge. Any clue what it is? Should I rush him to the er or wait to see what happens. I wrapped it in a paper towel and taped over it. He trying to get it off but he listens when I say stop. I may muzzle! HELP!!! Batmom
If something is sticking out, you want to make sure there's no foreign body in there. Clean well under running water (if you can) -- just water and very mild soap (like Ivory hand soap) is fine. Examine, remove any foreign body, pat dry. Put his muzzle on first if in doubt -- if something hurts, pup may lash out unexpectedly. Guest greytexplorer
What is sticking out? A thorn? Torn piece of skin? If it's a foreign body, get it out if you can, and pour hydrogen peroxide over the wound. That will help do some deep cleaning.

I could not tell what it was but I tried to take it out and it did not want to come out. I got the feeling it was something internal that should not have been external! It looked soft and pinksish and looked like it was attatched to something else, like it squshed out. If I had to guess I would have thought cartilage or a tendon but then again I never saw either before.
