Bringing Up Pannus

In Jan. of 06, the Specialist put Alan on tacro., pred. sodium PHOSPHATE & a lubricant for his "mild" pannus. My regular vet has been checking him from day one of the diagnosis. We then dropped the tacro. and he was on cyclosporine & pred. Then down to just pred.sod.phosphate (not acetate).

Now, June of 07 the regular vet said his Pannus got worse, especially in the left eye. So he put him back on Tacro. It was $55.00 for the little dropper bottle. The pred. is about $30 for this pharmacy near me. What do you whose greys have pannus use and how much are your meds? Justl curious. Living in NY everything seems to be more!

I use Prednisolone Acetate, 10ml bottle. 1 drop in each eye am & pm. I just got more yesterday and paid $20 something.

I can't remember what we paid, but Whistler was on Neo/Poly/Dex and tacrolimus--no oral meds. His pannus was pretty severe (he had both the kind that affects the cornea and the atypical kind that affects the third eyelid). About quarterly, he would get a steroid injection directly into the eye that would keep his symptoms from flaring. Although his opthamologist said his condition was only ever "moderately controlled," she felt this course of treatment gave him the best results.

This was the treatment for my Molly's pannus . She also went to the opthamologist for an eye exam annually, so I agree with Burpdog on the follow ups with eye doc. :)

I know, he'll have to go back to the specialist. I don't care for the one he went to - has a good reputation but the personality of a pea. So very cold. There's finally another opthalmologist on L.I. here, so maybe I'll schedule an appt. with her AFTER he goes for a "consult" with another vet this week. I have to say, since he's been on the tacro, his eyes are not bright red.
