A Little Prayer For Dusty

Recommended Posts

Dusty is going in tomorrow to have his toe amputated. Besides having a large, deep corn that hasn't responded to treatment, there seems to be a problem with the joint also. Four years ago he and Beth were chasing each other around the dining room table and the only thing we can figure out is that he got his toe (same toe) caught on the back of a chair leg. He severed a tendon and artery and spent the summer in a splint. It's a good thing we were home and heard the "yip". He probably would have bled to death judging by the amount of blood pouring out :eek

I know it's not a "biggy" compared with what so many GTers are facing but if you could, a little prayer tomorrow would be helpful. I'm so nervous I feel like :puke:puke

Thanks.

You have ours. Foxy says not to worry who needs a hurting old toe anyway. She's missing one on her front left foot.

Extreme says to tell Dusty it's no big deal & the foot will feel so much better afterwards. Extreme had a toe amputated up tp the first joint and after it healed he doesn't even notice it's going. We'll be thinking good thoughts foryou tomorrow.

He'll miss that toe about as much as you'd miss a tooth ache...nasty ol' corn goes with it too...

Hope everything goes O.K. for him.

Hugs

He's out of surgery and the vet says it was a "routine" toe amputation. He should be coming home tomorrow. Question - Dusty never leaves any boo-boo or bandage alone. Makes a disaster out of every little thing with his licking and bandage biting . He can't wear an E collar. Had one on once and went completely bonkers. I have a Bite-Not collar but that won't prevent him from getting his front foot. Other than his muzzle, does anyone have any suggestions how to keep him from bothering his foot?

Thanks for your prayers. Can't wait to get him home.

Couldn't figure out how to add to my original post so...

I am totally amazed. Just picked Dusty up from the vets. Yesterday the vet said that it's pretty common for toe amputees to hold that foot up for a few days. He is walking on his foot. Actually he is limping but certainly not any worse than he was before the surgery and maybe even a little less. He walked up the ramp into the SUV same as always. So far, no licking. I am SO pleasantly surprised by all of this.:colgate

Thanks everyone for your prayers. GT prayers worked yet again!
