Aerosmom
We visited her this afternoon, and she's having a little bit of a hard time -- they've been giving her Valium because she's stressing and panting. I thought her incision looked good, except there was a build up of blood/fluid in the lower part of the amputation area -- they said it was a little more than normal but still okay. She was very agitated though, which makes me feel very anxious for her too. On the positive note, she was up and moving and pulling. And she did eat some homemade tuna treats. I spoke iwth the vet later in the afternoon and he said they checked her levels and they were a little high, but still okay. Also she had fallen asleep, which makes me feel better. I was picturing her panting and stressing the whole time which I'm sure isn't good for her. They might send her home tomorrow, maybe Tuesday....depends on how she is tomorrow. It's awful to see her so agitated. Do the drugs do that, or is it just the aftermath of the surgery. I know it was a very major operation. Neighsayer
Hope things look better tomorrow. Was she stressing before you got there? Will they send her home with meds to keep her calm? She may do soooo much better at home. Good luck!

Guest caro
Glad to hear the surgery went well. It's awful to see her so agitated. Do the drugs do that, or is it just the aftermath of the surgery. I know it was a very major operation. I've read that some pain killers (like Morphine) can cause great anxiety in dogs, especially greyhounds. I think there was an article in CG Magazine about it sometime in the last year. Ask your vet to give you Ultram for Snickers. It does not cause any anxiety at all and works great. I used it for Huggy Bear and he slept like a baby. Aerosmom
This is her daughter, Ali. I'm sitting her keeping an eye on Snickers. She's home and very sleepy. As I thought, nothing can stop Snickers from being goofy. Despite a three-human barracade, she managed to leap out of the car. She was thirsty earlier, but has calmed down enough to get some rest. Thank you for all of you prayers and support. Aerosmom
Update on Miss Snickers: (from Mom -- my daughter posted yesterday.) She is so so happy to be home. We had a rough night, with a lot of panting and pain. But I gave her more Tramadol and she's now sleeping without the panting. I'm not sure the Tramadol and Metacam are enough for her -- I waiting to hear back from them to discuss this. I think the more she sleeps and rests the quicker she'll heal. Aero and Cricket are being great with her -- Cricket has been very sweet and worried about her sister. I stocked up on Dogsters Frozen treats so she can have something yummy to do when we ice her incision. Her remaining front leg is very bruised and swollen today...I'm going to ask the vet about this too.
