Guest robingrey
I just learned that a certain artifical sweetner is terribly toxic to dogs. Xylitol will cause hypoglycemia, liver damage, and possibly death. I just found this on Snopes. Check it out: Linky Am I the only one who's never heard of this one? Guest KennelMom
I read about that a while back. Always good to post and repost though. New members area always coming by and you never know when it might save a life!
Guest Stretchy
Thanks for the warning...I always have a pack of that gum on the counter (won't be leaving it there anymore) Edited May 16, 2007 by Stretchy
Guest fountainpengwen
Clifford ate quite a bit of Xylitol gum a few months back, giving us quite a scare. Luckily, he was just fine, but I'm now EXTRA careful about putting my gum away! Thanks for posting!
Guest robingrey
I've heard about grapes, chocolate, and onions. Never heard of this one. I thought if I hadn't, then probably some other folks hadn't either. It seems to be pretty potent.
Guest nerak254
Here's something else I learned recently. I know I've mentioned from time to time how much I hate the car I'm driving right now. I have a 2000 Pontiac Grand Am and the low coolant light keeps going on. Anyway, I went to the auto store to get some coolant (who knew it was also called anti-freeze). Anyway, I asked for the kind that is animal safe and they told me that you have to use a certain kind that the manufacturer requires and that Pontiac requires the kids that can kill pets. Guest patti909
and where would you find that?
Guest BugsBunny
You have to be especially careful with anti-freeze around cats, as Iam told there is something in it which attracts them and they want to drink it!! Don't know if it's the smell or what.
Guest SillyDog
I was in a small pet food & supplies store the other day and found a bottle of this spray stuff designed to get your dog to chew on what you want. The spray is supposed to taste good, so you spray it on chew toys & stuff. One of the ingredients was xylitol. I brought it to the attention of the clerk and suggested they pull it off the shelves. Just thought I'd mention this since the findings about xylitol being toxic to dogs are somewhat new.

Xan
Sorry! Not to down-play the seriousness of this (and thanks for the info!), but this cracked me up: Pontiac requires the kids that can kill pets. Wow. That seems pretty short-sighted of them, PR-wise! Quote My Inspirations: Grey Pogo, borzoi Katie, Meep the cat, AND MY BELOVED DH!!!Missing Rowdy, Coco, Brilly, Happy and Wabi.
