Guest KingTermite
Ok...I've read some posts already and seen products like "Cockadoodle doo" and products from www.gardensalive.com but nothing seems to be what I really need. I just moved to a place (renting) with an odd backyard. It has many rocks and it can't really just be mowed. The landlord says he usually uses Ortho to just kill the grass in the backyard, but I'm a little worried about my two greys, especially as one is a big-time grass eater. Are there any products that will kills the grass and weeds and not be harmful to my two boys? I know normally there wouldn't be much of a backyard after a few weeks of running, but this yard is set up odd and I don't think they'll be able to tear it up like normal. suggestions? Guest KingTermite
Vinegar. I've heard that many times now...can you do vinegar for a whole lawn? Will the neighbors kill me? How long before the smell goes away?
ahicks51
If you want to kill all the grass, just cut it as short as you can (weed whacker), and spray with Roundup. Keep the dogs off of it for a week or so. Another solution is to cover with black or clear plastic, and anchor the edges. If done in summer, it'll work pretty fast. Move the plastic around until the whole yard has been killed. But, of course then the weeds will come up from seeds so a germination inhibitor like oryzalin (Surflan, practically non-toxic) will be required. Of you could just get a weed whacker and cut it with that. It takes a little longer, but it works well enough in irregular yards. Guest KennelMom
Salt water will kill grass. Some people will recommend a salt water/vinegar mixture.
Guest tobinhr
I have a small patio and grass spouts up between the bricks. I pour boiling water on the offending sprouts a few times each summer. Voila! Dead grass! (Military housing, so I am loathe to do something more complicated.) Why does grass grow where you don't want it too????? Jan Mac, who just sleeps in the grass.. PatricksMom
If you do vinegar, Ideally do it on a hot dry day, so the grass will soak up more of it. If household vinegar doesn't work, there's also gardening strength stuff that should work. The black plastic works well too, and the heat from it if done in the summer will actually kill a number of the weed seeds as well. Quote Beth, Petey (8 September 2018- ), and Faith (22 March 2019). Guest Energy11
I would never use "Round Up!" We have used products from this site, with no problems! Good Luck! http://www.saferbrand.com/
