Guest CocktailGirl Posted May 13, 2007 Share Posted May 13, 2007 Two days before I went on vacation Cocktail injured herself in the yard. I took her to the vet and we were pretty sure she had either broken a bone in her elbow or there was a problem in her neck by the symptoms she was showing. Due to the amount of pain she was in DH and I left her there for the night so that they could do x-rays in the morning. Now, I hate leaving her at the vet for any reason because she always has a seizure when she comes home but I took her for a small walk before leaving for the vet because she seemed better and I had to carry her back to the house. Since she was going to be under for x-rays of her neck and front leg we also decided to have x-rays done of her rear legs too. She has been having some trouble keeping her balance on the hard wood floors and there was also a problem a few months ago. She had been in some kind of pain but we never determined exactly what it was from. Needless to say, the results were not good. She has two fused vertebra in her neck which is what was causing all the pain there and her holding up her front leg after walking for a bit. The x-rays of the rear legs showed bone cancer in her left femer. DH and I made the decision that due to the pain she was in she would spend our vacation week at the vet hospital kennels while Tonic stayed home with the dog sitter. DH and I were not totally blindsided by this diagnosis. We knew somthing was wrong but not exactly what. We have decided that we will keep Cocktail as comfortable as possible till she lets us know when she is ready even if we are not. If you have read this far, thank you.
