Guest MorganKonaAlex
December 2004, my DH and I were living the good life with our 2 aging greys, Morgan and Kona. I saw a posting on a local mailing list about a greyhound needing a home. He had been at the adoption kennel for over 2 years. Passed over because he was a little shy and on medications for thyroid and seizures. My heart broke for this boy who I'd never met. DH was pretty adament about not getting another dog. For several weeks, I contacted anyone who I thought might be able to provide a home but failed. Finally, DH felt his arm twisting and relented. Alex came to live with us in January 2004. By the 3rd day, I was totally smitten. Boy, did our lives change with Alex's arrival! After a few weeks, he blossomed into a happy, playful boy full of spunk. A total character! He had an incredible enthusiasm and became my heart dog. He would lay at my feet and stare at me like I was the most wonderful thing he ever saw. He was a talker including every time he rolled over he would groan. Every morning or when we came home, he would go wild with the stuffed toys. If I didn't prepare his food or get ready for a walk fast enough, he would dance and bark at me. Turns out, he didn't need to be on medication for seizures, he was just low thyroid. In December, his limp was diagnosed as OS. We treated with amputation and chemo. After his 3rd chemo, he developed a cough and a lung xray showed lung mets. We tried a different experimental protocol, but the cancer was incredibly aggressive. The last week, his body started failing and he was euthanized on Friday. He will be greatly missed. I wish we had more than just 2 years together.
