We came home today and found that she had passed in our bedroom on her bed while we were out and about. She was still warm when we came home, so we just missed her and I'm kicking myself for even leaving the house. For everyone that does not know, Lily was diagnosed with osteo back in late August of last year. She had her left rear leg amputated and had chemotherapy too. She was doing pretty well until about January when she started acting odd when she would lay down. We took her back to the vet and they x-rayed her and she had another mass in her ribcage. We were planning on starting a new treatment on Monday but Lily had been going downhill since this past Wednesday when she started to refuse food. We called the vet and tried another type of pain medication which she didn't seem to tolerate well, she threw up soon after we gave it to her. We brought her to be cremated today. I still don't think I believe that she is really gone, I feel like she is just in the other room sleeping and that's why I don't hear her. We adopted Lily in July of 2004. She was a foster for someone else in our adoption group and they were going on vacation and needed someone to watch Lily. It took only a few days of babysitting Lily and we fell in love with her, she never went back to her foster family. She has been an excellent dog since. She loved to ride in the car, chase those jumbo play balls in the backyard and tear apart stuffed animals. She was always such a patient dog and did so well with any foster hound we had.
