Guest greytgreymom Posted January 13, 2007 Share Posted January 13, 2007 Whenever our group would go to the Gable farm to pick up new dogs, we would always check on Dodge. I've seen him age gracefully over the years; he was always a regal, proud Greyhound. September 19th was the last time we saw Dodge. We went to the farm to pick up five from the Goebels. (Interesting enough, one was Dodge's sister, Topaz.) Dodge was down after having surgery for a broken shoulder bone. This was the only time he wasn't up and active. The next time I spoke with Janna, she told me that Dodge had developed a lump in his other shoulder and they suspected cancer. Needless to say, Janna was heartsick. Janna called me on Wednesday to let me know about Dodge's passing. She knew he held a special place in my heart. She told me he was laid to rest next to his greyt father, Wigwam Wag. She noted to me that father and son crossed almost at the same age. Wag was 11 years and three months; Dodge was 11 years and two months. Gable Dodge's legacy will live on through the many, many pups he has sired. It is probably a good bet most of us in Greyhound adoption have been lucky enough to place one of his pups - if not have adopted one ourselves. Most are just like their daddy, proud and regal with a temperment unequalled. Our most heartfelt condolences to Janna and Harlyn Goebel. It must run in the family, because Rambo is about the silliest boy I have ever seen but the most sweetest at the same time. Rambo (Dodge Rambo) is just as beautiful as his daddy and the silliest, sweetest boy on earth. I love how a lot of his pups are named after him. What a greyt legacy to be named after. I have to say that Gable Dodge produced some of the most affectionate and fun loving dogs I've ever met, Janie being first and foremost.
