Guest alkeryia
Hi everyone. Some here may remember me and that is why I decided to re register my original name. I am Mary Lou from Rhode Island, and until recently, was the proud mom to three lovely greys, Ranger, Wags and Hollie. Since returning to work full time, I don't have as much time for myself as I used to, and missed my friends here. A recent event in our lives made me come back. On November 5, Ranger, our very first greyhound love, fell in our kitchen. At first, I thought that he had a sprain. He was almost 8 years old, and had arthritis from a bad break in his racing days. Having just been seen for his routine stuff by our vet, I didn't worry too much, but kept up his Arthramaxx and added Rimadyl for pain. Over the course of 6 weeks, he didn't improve, so back to Dr. Bazar we went. You can imagine my fear when he was weighed and Dr. B. said, "Tell me that this dog is NOT eating.". He had lost 9 pounds in 5 weeks. Scary thing, he was eating normally. The sprain turned out to be osteosarcoma. A trip to the specialist showed that the tumor in his leg was very large and had metastasized to his lungs. There was no hope. While we hoped to make it through Christmas with Ranger still with us, this proved impossible when Phentanyl, Rimadyl, Tramadol and Dilauded failed to even touch his pain. At 2 am on December 15, we made the decision that we needed to end this horror for our beloved pet, and at 10 am, Ranger crossed the bridge. Ranger was the chip that got us hooked, we will always miss him. Rest well my prince, RJ Eze Ranger.

Guest PhillyPups
MaryLou, Welcome back, and please know I am so sorry for your loss. I lost my SugarBear to osteo at the age of 14.5, and my son lost his beloved Shimmer, also just about 8 years old, just as you described. You are in the right place, for so many of us know exactly how you are feeling now, even though the feelings and pain are so personal. Prayers to you and yours.
