Guest 2greysandKirby
We helped our big black boy Andy to the Bridge this morning. A week ago, a swelling appeared on his right front leg, and it seemed to grow every day. This morning we saw a specialist who showed us the x-ray and the devastation to the bone caused by cancer and told us that a spontaneous break could occur at any time. Andy never showed any evidence of pain or even discomfort until his last day. This morning he was unwilling to walk very far when I took him out. That was the first time I saw any discomfort. Andy was a bounce who came to us two years ago as a 7 year old. He was a dancer who would lift one front leg and then the other in a "happy dance" whenever he was pleased with something. I would often call him to go for a walk and he would not appear. When I would track him down, he would be standing, smiling, and dancing like mad. He had to get that dance in before his walk. I feel that we did the only thing we could for him today. A break would have been devastating and I just couldn't put him through even the possibility of that kind of pain. I feel that Andy was ready for his journey this morning. When the vet tech brought in the blanket for him, he climbed onto it and laid down, putting his head in my lap. He quietly left us as I stroked his head. Through my tears I can see him dancing at the Bridge - and smiling, always smiling. Have a safe journey, dear Andy. We'll miss you. Greys4Us
God’s Angels We’re put on this earth to do what we can To be kind to all animals and our fellow man Some do this well and some can’t do it at all But a few special folk do hear God’s call. The folk that take in all God’s waifs and strays Give them love and care till the end of their days They’re special beyond the words I can reach They just get on and do – have no need to preach. But as each waif passes on to live at God’s side Another small part of the carer’s heart dies For to give so much love is a selfless thing When you know from the start the pain it will bring. So although right now the pain is still raw Take heart from knowing it’s you they adored And when your turn comes in the fullness of time The dogs that you love will be waiting in line. Till then they’ll be close, not far from your side They’ll lick away tears that fall from your eyes And when you feel the bed dip in the night Know that they’re with you – just out of sight. For the love that you shared can never die It’s only farewell, never goodbye The dogs that you love, you will meet again Till that time arrives they’re your faithful friends.
