Sally O'malley Was Such A Sweet Girl

Hello,

This is my first post on this board. Sally O'Malley was my very first dog. I had always been a cat person, but always wanted a greyhound. I adopted her three years ago. She was eight years old (almost nine.) She would have turned twelve on Christmas Day. In early January of this year, she was diagnosed with Lymphoma. She just happened to be at the vet for dental work, and her doctor noticed that her lymph nodes were enlarged. The diagnosis was confirmed shortly thereafter. She went through a 6 month chemo protocol. She did amazingly well (due mostly to the early diagnosis, she never felt sick from the lymphoma). Everyone at the vet hospital loved her. She was always so sweet and willing to cooperate with her treatments. She went into complete remission. Her treatments ended in late August (she had to take extra time btw some treatments, so the protocol took longer than 6 months.) I thought I would know her for two more years, at least. She did so well with the chemo.

She became increasingly finicky with her food recently and then last week began vomiting after eating sometimes. She was diagnosed with pancreatitis and her liver was affected too. She was in the hospital for a few days, but she was not improving. She stopped eating. I brought her to the vet to say good-bye on Thursday.

She was my sweetest and first baby girl. I loved her so much and am filled with sadness from her loss. She was my first doggie, and because of her, there will be many more.

I 've attached my favorite photo of her here. I just want everyone to see how precious Sally O'Malley was.

Thank you for listening.

Welcome to GT.

I am sorry about your Sally. We went thru the same thing with Comet. Got him at 12, lymphona lumps presented on Christmas Day, he was gone in less than 10 days.

I'm glad you had so much time - although it's never enough- to spend with Sally after diagnosis.

Sally's passing has left a hole in all the hearts of those who knew her. She had a wonderful soul. My days just won't be the same without our visits. :cry1

You might recognize Sally from an issue of Celebrating Greyhounds this year; she was pictured in my article on pet sitting.
