Guest Cris_M
Gabriel died when he was 4 yrs, 8 mos old. However, he had leukemia (and also lymphoma) which I understand is pretty rare for a dog. It isn't one of those diseases that could have been prevented, and shouldn't cause concern in other grey owners. We miss Gabriel and are very blessed to have the extremely healthy 4 yr, 3 mo old Duncan in our lives. Cris

Bill419
I need a new category. Susie was 15 years old. We adopted Susie 3 weeks before her 14th birthday and she blessed us with her presense for a wonderful 14 months. Susie had kidney disease when we adopted her but she died of old age. Guest practicepiano
I didn't vote, since I haven't suffered the loss of a greyhound yet. Willow is in the middle of her 10th year, and still zooms around the yard like a pup. Lailah is six, and going strong.
MP_the4pack
Topaz died at 5 from liver disease. Brindle died at 8 from hemangiosarcoma. Pearl who is still with me has severe heart disease. She's 9. Her sister Diamond is healthy at 9 and my old lady Onyx is my first double digit girl at 11. I used to babysit Domino, he died at 7 from autoimmune problems another boy I was fond of died at 8 from osteo. A little girl Ruby convulsed and died at 5. Topaz's half brother died at 4. Even my own vet states that a greyhound's lifespan is 8. Not 12-14 as stated by adoption groups.

Guest greycious_gal
Eeek. This is a toughie! We lost our first grey boy this last August by complete surprise. He was only 8. I couldn't bring myself to find out what it was that took him. I only know there were zero symptoms...and zero suffering from what we could tell. *trying not to cry again* Brin will be 8 this year, I think. (Quick, gotta do the math!) My Winkadinkadoooo will be 6 on December 27th. Please, oh, please! Do not let their lifespan be shorter than what they say!
Guest mirthlesstroll
Logan, my 1st grey, is now 10. He has food allergies, arthritis in multiple joints, and has had some siezures, but is still loving the Meet & Greets. Melody is a wild and puppy-ish 8. beledi
I could not vote as I lost my beloved Runner just shy of his 8th birthday, as we stood at a M&G, he was the picture of health, he had a massive heart attack and went right over, so quickly his knees never bent. I can still hear the sound, and feel him just leave my side as I was scritching him. The Most Divine Ms. SugarBear lost the battle to osteocarcinoma at the sweet age of 14.5. I currently have: BarbieJade - 12 on 5/1/06 Stepper - 10 on 9/10/05 TigerPower - 8 on 5/1/06 and Zeus - 6 on 12/17/05 Stepper is a much younger 10 than BarbieJade was at that age, but the oldest soul in my pack is my baby, Zeus, he has always been an old soul, and Stepper always a clown puppy. Whenever we lose them, it is ALWAYS way too soon, and I am NEVER ready. Oh how awful for you! Quote "Then God sent the Greyhound to live among man and remember. And when the day comes God will call the Greyhound to give Testament, and God will pass judgment on man." Persian Proverb
Mystella
Seeing this thread again made me sad, only because I know several of the people who posted in the first round have since lost their beloved babes, just shows us that things change in the blink of an eye, but despite it all we are so blessed and lucky to have them for as long as we do. Sorry to go on a tangent! Quote Take the time to stop and smell the flowers - appreciate your everyday ordinary miracles Carolyn, Faith, Jeff Gordon (aka Jeffy) and Oscar the chilla. Desperately missing our Stella, we'll see you later sweet girl.
