Jams Yussel (known as Freddie, and later Harkunda) came to us, as he was having problems in his adoptive home. We thought that we could help with his problems, and they seemed to be getting worked out. Freddie (he didn't answer to that name, or Harkunda), and one day, I yelled out "Joe" which was his original owners name, and he was also known as Joe's Boy, and he turned and looked at me. The original adopter decided she could not have him back in her home, and asked me to keep him, or try to place him. If I had had my way, we would have kept him as he had fit in quite well in our pack, with no signs of aggression. We placed him with a couple that we know, who have 2 greyhounds. Not knowing that their dogs had been allowed to run out of the front door of their house a few times, because of carelessness. Joe went to them, he was supposed to be with this gentleman's mother, who lives in their Granny Flat, and we said that if there was a problem, just call and we would come and bring him hiome, and keep him. He proved to be cat safe, and within an hour of being in her apartment, was sharing the couch with 2 of her cats. He was such a loving boy. Later that evening, when getting the dogs ready for their evening walk, someone left a door open, and Joe ran off, they think looking for us. We did not find this out until the next day, when I called to make sure there had been no problems. They didn't even have the courage to call and tell us, or even call us when he first ran off. He headed back towards our house, and got within 2 blocks of our home, but while crossing a busy 6 lane road, he was hit by a car. The driver did not even stop, and a pedestrian picked him up, carried him to the sidewalk, called the police and ambulance service. He was taken to the local emergency vet, but both of his front legs were shattered, and he just lay there, not even crying. When it was determined that it would take major orthopedic surgery to fix his legs, they decided to put him to sleep. I have been devastated, and can't stop crying. He was with us for such a short time, but he showed us what a loving, happy pup he could be. I have arranged to have his ashes returned to me, and am hoping to be in Florida in late June, or early July, and would be honoured if the wife of his original owner you would allow me to bring his ashes home to her farm, and bury them with your other dogs. I am so sorry, that this has happened, his life was so short, and after coming to Canada, he did not seem to have a happy life. We were lucky to see the happy side of his personality, and honoured to have known him., Our other dogs, even though he was only here for a short time, seem to in a funk without him here. Please forgive me for placing him in a home that he should not have gone to. I have been in a turmoil as to who to contact first, and so far have talked to two friends of the owner's wife in the US, one in Florida, and one in Pennsylvanie about this tragedy, And they have advised me as to how to proceed. He was only with us for a short time, but he will never be forgotten, he was such a lovable boy. The only thing I can think of now, is that he is running free with his sister, and his beloved Daddy Joe. They are together for eternity. All our love, and sympathy go out to all who new him. In the short time that Joe was with us, he went with us to welcome another pup to Canada, here they are together. He is the dark brindle putting up with her jumping on him. GODSPEED SWEET BOY. Joe was so gentle, even with the wild one jumping on him, he just tolerated it. Here's a closer look at that sweet face. You were confined to a motel room and a cargo van with 6 girls and you never gave us an ounce of trouble. for you since I was called about your trip to The Rainbow Bridge where I know you are playing with Bijoux and Daddy Joe. You told me how much he enjoyed the off leash you took him too and hanging with your pack. He loved his trip to greet Choo choo too. It is every adoption rep's worst nightmare to have an accident like this happen but take comfort in the fact that is by the grace of God alone that anyone of us on GT hasn't had a dog run out the front door. We do the best that we can, I know you did, and did so with a lot of love in that heart of yours. forgive yourself, I know Joe already does. Thunder probably met him at the bridge and is right now taking him around to meet the gang! He's at peace, you need to give yourself some now. GODSPEED, JOE, You were loved here. Joe was a lovely boy who I had the opportunity to meet and I know he is running free at the bridge watching down on you.
