Sammie, The Golden Retriever

Sammie was my first dog. It seems like I grew up with her, and in fact, I did. She spent all her life from puppyhood through adulthood, and into her later years living in the same house, where she was greatly loved. When my sister and I grew up and moved out, she stayed and kept mom and dad company, and was always excited to see me come home for a visit. As she got older, she got weaker, and developed problems, incontinence and fluid buildup, to name a few. The vet always said she was happy, and not in pain, and so we all soldiered on, although by now, Sammie was getting tired, and didn't always get up to say hello, but instead gave a hearty thump of her tail, inviting visitors to come to her, in payment for all of the years she bounded over to us, without being asked, just out of love. Now she's gone, having endured her last trip to the vet, and her final round of hugs and kisses from the family. She met Sparky and Kenna, and seemed happy to have met them. She lived a long and eventful life, but even through her sickness, this end never fully entered anyone's mind. She was truly a member of the family, and she will be missed.

I am so sorry for your loss. It's hard to say goodbye to an old and beloved friend. May your memories ease your pain and bring you joy.

Run free, sweet Sammie.

I'm very sorry for your loss of a beloved old friend. :grouphug Surely Sammie was met at the Bridge by my heart hound golden, Baby Huey (known as "Angel") and is youthful and frisky again. :beatheart
