  1. Adopted a new Grey about 6 weeks ago and was checked out by the vet. Had a fecal done and has hookworm and tapeworm. I got two rounds of meds and Ill need to do a new fecal sample 30 days later. If positive, yet another round of meds. $$$$$. Is this my responsibility if the rescue never did ANY testing except for heartworm? Beyong spaying or neutering, thats all they do, along with rabies shots. Not even a dental anymore, so I will need to get that done too bc the vet said I should get a dental soon too since greyhound teeth are awful. This is my second grey fro this rescue and this experience is nothing like the first years ago.
  2. Yesterday I was sitting down and my dog, daisy, was standing in front of me. I noticed a little worm around her butthole, it looked EXACTLY like a pinworm. But I read that dogs cant get pinworms? Is that true? As I was inspecting it, it fell off but I threw it in the garbage, (didnt even think about taking a picture of it I should have!) and then I saw another little worm actually come out of her butthole. It looked the exact same as the other one, also looking like a pinworm. So if dogs cant get pinworms what could it be? Ive looked at all the different kinds of worms in dogs and none of the ones I came across looked like these. TIA!!
  3. Just here to vent. Philly came from the track with these nastly little things. He was treated with drontal but got really sick so we switched to another med that the name now escapes me. After numerous poop tests, he was still turning up positive so we decided to treat every 3 weeks for 4 months. And it worked!!! (Or so we thought). He was given the all clear with a final poop test in March of this year. I was so happy, I squealed at the office during the phone call from the vet. Fast forward to late July, early this August, he started having loose poops. Ugh, I feared the worst as I hadn't changed anything. Sure, I'd snuck in some table food here and there but nothing more than a small piece of chicken. Was even planning on switching his food thinking that was it (Purina Pro Plan chicken) Vet confirmed the worst today. They saw some eggs in a recent stool sample. I'm devastated (for him and me). We worked so hard!!!! I don't have a yard so I have to walk him and he's never eaten anything off the grass on walks (he'll lick a wet spot on the grass which I assume is pee from another dog but that's about it). Oh well, We'll be going back to 3 wk treatments of the medication (the name of which still escapes me). Oh and I know some flea and tick meds also help with deworminf and stuff but Heartgard and Nexgard made him ill (lost appetite and loose poop with heartgard; vomiting with nexgard). Any recs on flea, tick, heartworm preventitive will be appreciated. Rant over. Thanks for listening.
  4. Hi all, New grey owner here! Have posted once about bonding but having some health issues we need advice on please. We have had our 3 y/o boy about 11 weeks now. He came to us at a weight of 82 lbs and his racing weight was 80 lbs. He had mostly soft stool from the beginning with some with slight form. We put him on eukanba when we first got him, which was a switch from Purina dog chow adult from the rescue group. He was put on doxy for about a month because his white cell count was high and the vet thought maybe he had tick borne disease. He also was diagnosed with hooks, which we have treated twice with a 5 day course of Panacur. We saw a live worm (guess you can't see hooks, so had to be another kind of worm, but what other worm could survive 2 rounds of Panacur other than hooks?)AFTER the double treatment and so he was then treated with Drontral plus as he had some blood in his poops so was also put on metronidazole. He also had a blood test for allergies which said he is allergic to pork, peas, corn, wheat and peanuts. Many of those things were in the Eukanba so we transitioned him to yet another food. We have had him on a probiotic, Fortiflora flora since we got him. His poops are nothing but soft serve goo and have not improved the slightest with No form and I even feel they are worse then when we first got him and wonder if the new food is not right. He has been on it over 3weeks. We felt he was skinny and weighed him today and he has lost 5 lbs in one month!!!! He is not vomitting and is eating. I ordered some Olewo carrots thinking it's worth a shot, but am wondering how if I shouldn't add something else new into the mix. I am pretty concerned now about this weight loss and don't know what I should do to resolve the poo either. Any help is much appreciated! 👍 Many thanks!!!!

  6. Cooper has dug herself a nice trench under a tree and enjoys laying in it on hot days. She is on Heartgard and Seresto but do these protect against whatever little buggers that could be lurking in the soil?
