I'm going on vacation soon and don't get home until July 3. Dog-sitter friend staying at my house with her two greyhounds.
With neighborhood and city Fourth of July fireworks probably starting over the June 30 weekend and Sheba absolutely traumatized by fireworks (heart racing, shaking, panting), I decided to get an anti-anxiety Rx from the vet yesterday. She prescribed Trazadone 50 mg, two tablets every 12-24 hours.
To test Sheba's reaction since this is the first time for such medication, I gave her two tablets this morning at 7:00 after her breakfast. Shortly after, I could tell it affected her as she came over to me a few times like she was asking me why she felt so weird. Then she was rather zombie-like and pretty much slept for the next few hours. Seems to be pretty much back to normal after about 4 hours.
I'm going to try it out again tomorrow morning but with only one tablet to see the reaction.
Note that this will not be a frequent administration of Trazadone, really only for fireworks or a really, really bad thunderstorm.
Anyone else use Trazadone on their hounds? What results do you get?
