  1. Hopefully the weather may soon get warmer. Thinking about flea and tick prevention, and if I should use a collar or eatable pill for our grey. Any recommendations on type and/or brands?
  2. I have two wonderful greyhounds and each have a suppressed immune system for different reasons. I am hoping to find out what others are doing for their greyhound friends concerning vaccinations. We have been told by the neurologist and the oncologist to hold off on their vacations for now. But I am not exactly clear on this matter. Should that be all or just certain ones ? I have a form found on line that the Doctor can sign to verify the need not to vaccinate. Surprise is on life time metronomic chemotherapy for the hemangiopericytoma (and pain med) that was removed from his leg. San Tan Snuggles is on cyclosporine and prednisone (and other meds) for at least a year for GME. Also what would be a good tick and flea and mosquito preventative to use on these sensitive greyhounds, they seem to be very sensitive even to a half dose ? They are still up to date as of this time. But eventually that will change. We do not allow them around other pets or humans at this time, other than the vet because they are immune suppressed. .
  3. My normally hyper 5yr old, pepper, gets very lethargic for 1 to 2 days after she gets her monthly trifexis. Has anyone else had this issue and if so did anything help? My vet referred me to the manufacturer for information on splitting the dose but I keep getting disconnected every time I call by their automated system. Thanks.
  4. We are fairly new greyhound owners; we adopted our girl Ali in January of this year. We live in the midwest and fleas and ticks are in full swing by the early summer. We decided not to spend any money this year on flea prevention and fortunately, we did not see a single flea until she had a short stay at the vet's office for a dental back in August. Since then, we've seen them here and there, but it seems now like they're multiplying. We've given her multiple baths and we've treated all the carpets in our house with Borax. The baths seem to help for about a week and then she's scratching again. I'm so scared to give her any flea medication because it's hard for them to metabolize it and it builds up in their blood stream. I once owned a Boxer who had a bad reaction to Comfortis and eventually died from it, so pills definitely scare me! What is everyone's recommendation for prevention? Fleas are becoming resistant to Frontline in our area, so that's out of the question. Thanks! -Tara

    Pet Armor

Does anyone use pet armor flea and tick for their hounds? I know frontline and advantix are recommended and that greys can be very sensitive to different medicines, but pet armor is so much cheaper and seems to have the same ingredients. Just wanted to know if anyone has used it either successfully or unsuccessfully before we try it. We will be asking our vet her opinion when we go next week also! Thanks
  6. My vet has discontinued Frontline Plus and is promoting the newer flea preventatives. I've used Frontline since adopting our first greyhound in 1999. Autumn is 13 and Jack is 11.5, so I'm not going to experiment with anything new as long as I can still find Frontline Plus. I use TriHeart for HW prevention. I prefer two separate products so as not to over-expose them to chemicals. From the comparison I just did, it appears K9 Advantix II has the added benefits of repelling fleas, repelling ticks and repelling mosquitos.. It's also a little more expensive than Frontline. Has anyone switched a senior grey to K9 Advantix II in recent months?? If so what was your experience?? Many thanks!!
