  1. I'm so very sorry to hear such sad news. Yes, limping can come and go with OS, especially in the early days. Spoil that sweet boy and cherish every moment you have with him, including taking lots of photos. Good pain management is critical. Find out the upper limits of what meds you can give him to keep him comfortable, so you can increase as needed. Sending lots of prayers and light to Burnie.
  2. Welcome to Greytalk! Now we need pics of your big handsome boy. BTW, you're not crazy... just normal gh owner behavior.
  3. I'm so very sorry. Godspeed, precious Cheer...
  4. He sounds "off" and that's a high heart rate. Any chance he got into something toxic or stole food that could affect him? I'd certainly call the e-vet for advice. Hope it's nothing serious.
  5. If his back legs are weak, then he most likely would not do well at all with an amputation of a front limb. Sometimes different meds have to be tried to see what works best. As I mentioned before, tramadol + an NSAID worked well for my puppers until the very end. My heart is with you... this is a very hard path to be on.
  6. I'm so very sorry. Holding your sweet Apollo in my prayers, surrounded by healing light.
  7. Beth, I've been down this road 3 times with senior hounds, 9 to 10 yrs. old. From first limp to the end was only 6 weeks. A combination of tramadol and NSAID (Deramaxx or Rimadyl is what I used) plus Pepcid for the tummy was pretty effective for pain control, although they all mostly tripod'd around rather than use the affected leg. The end sign, for me, was sudden uncontrollable swelling of the limb and my hound's eyes, telling me it was time. You'll know when that is. I'm so very sorry you have to deal with this monster. "
  8. Cat poop must be a delicacy to many hounds. My cat has a covered litter box which is turned towards a wall so the greys can't snack. Definitely need to keep your hound out of the cat litter!
  9. Oh no. What rotten news. Explore your options, knowing that you'll choose whatever is best for your sweet boy. I found the Circle of Grey to be an incredibly supportive resource for dealing with OS. Holding you and Smiley in my prayers...
  10. I'm very sorry for your loss. Go run like the wind with the angels, sweet Domino...

  16. Sending prayers and light to your precious girl, for her highest good.
  17. Just checking in for an update. How's your boy doing today?
  18. I agree with Robin. It takes very close monitoring and training to move a gh to a cat-tolerant status (given her starting point). Your girl sounds very workable. A non-cat tolerant grey will usually be VERY intense about staring down a cat, might chatter, drool, lick lips, lunge, and chase the kitty. Do you have baby gates up so the cat has escape opportunities if needed?
  19. Welcome back, Karen! I remember we chatted a bit about your RV experiences, before I went out and bought one to live in. Your advice helped give me courage to pursue my dreams.
  20. Great news! Keep up the good work, Miss Diamond.

  22. My deepest condolences, Mary. He was a beloved pet, never to be forgotten.
