  1. When I lived in Illinois we all had to get renter's insurance.  This is my conversation with State Farm  -
Agent: "Do you have a dog?"
    Me: "yes"
    Agent "Breed and weight?"
    Me: "Yorkshire terrier.  Eight pounds""
Agent: "Is the dog attack trained?"

OP -  I agree check with your insurance agent.

Cynthia Brannigan's books about retired racing greyhounds, and Retired Racing Greyhounds for Dummies are both required reading for our adoption group before we adopt out any of our dogs.  I, personally, have also found any of Patricia McConnell's dog behavior books to be very helpful in understanding dog behavior in general.

I'd run away from a group that had required reading.  My first greyhound Little Girl was a basket case but she taught me about greyhounds and I taught her about being a pet.

  3. Good advice above.  Let sleeping dogs lie is good advice.  In dealing with lots of farm dogs I learned it is actually better to feed water and go about your business as if they aren't there for a few days.  I would use a kennel with an OPEN door as a woobie spot.  sometimes a blankett over the top helps.

  4. Good advice above.  I transported two greyhounds (one of which was always over 90#) thousands of miles in the back seat of a Mazda Protage.  If space seems to be a problem do as suggested and  fill in the rear footwells with pillows and throw a comforter over the whole thing.  When I was pulling dogs off the farms I'd often have two big boys in the back and a petite girl curled in the passenger seat.  Never had issues.

To me two dogs have always been easier than one as they keep each other occupied.

  5. I'm just a layman so am not a voice of authority,  While I believe that some/most owners in the UK train dogs outside the track environment it would be practically impossible to properly train a racing NGA grey if one just owns a dog or two in the USA.  You might look into lure coursing.

  6. MP is right - if he's drinking he may just need a couple of days rest.  When you are over the hump Natural Balance Fat Dogs might be  good option at 7.5 % fat.   Poodle thrived for years on Natural Balance Ultra light but the discontinued it.   My vet tried to push w/d on me .  Just look at the ingredients and you'll see why I said no.  All oh Hill's senior and low far foods have cellulose high up on the list.  Cellulose is plant fiber so the food could contain anything from sawdust to cotton.

BTW - Poodle's insulin was the type that is $27.99 at Wal Mart.  Might check on that f you need insulin.

:grouphug to you and your boy.
