  1. A trainer coming into your house for 1 day, especially if not greyhound savy will not make a difference. I show my greys in obedience and train....and know! There are others willing to take her back asap! Please allow this dog to be assisted with whatever issues it may have. Do not think of euthanasia....there are other outlets. A brain tumor? I think behavior that needs to be worked with, definitely...but unless you show me mri evidence I doubt that this girl has a tumor. Please message me before a huge mistake is made. I will contact people who will pick her up from you.
  2. I am an adoption reresentativep with GHF of NJ and GHF of Mass.in the Cape May County/Atlantic County area. Please contact me asap at 609-425-3067 about these issues. Thanks so much...I hope I can be of assistance.
  3. Hi! I was on this or a similar list years ago, but somehow did not find myself in the list. Patty Tustin. Mays Landing, New Jersey. Email is Spotsylott@comcast.net I can provide references if ever needed, I have 5 greys of my own and have been an adoption representative for 15 years.
  4. As many of you may know, my big red fawn boy Murphy had been fighting a battle with neurological issues, spinal stenosis, ITP, and general organ failure. What started in December as a momentary loss of leg control during a walk in the park, ended yesterday. We helped Murphy to the bridge at 4:30. For those who did not know his story...here it is briefly. Murphy was a bounce back, and my first foster dog. He was returned unceremoniously in the early morning with nothing but a leash, collar, and paperwork. He was eating "the house" and was too rough and very needy...they did not want him around one more minute. Barbara Wicklund called to ask if Woody and I would foster him. "TWO WEEKS....and he is outta here", was Woody's answer. That answer came back to get him TWO DAYS later when he called Barbara to formally adopt him. Barbara did not make it easy on Woody.....well lets say we did get to keep Murphy, and Woody never placed a time limit on a foster dog again Murphy never did live up to the bad rap he ahd been given. He never ate our T.V. remotes, chewed the rugs, destroyed pottery....never...he was a therapy dog and winner of many "longest tail" competitions. He did open the fridge and get an oven stuffer roaster once.....but he shared with all of his 4-footed friends....we ate the stuffing and veggies! Murphy is my Greytalk avatar, and words cannot describe the loss I feel. Wait for me at the Bridge dear friend! Patty Tustin Mom to Magic, Rosie, Bevie, Foppa, Tony, Scooby, Ralph, Sharpie, Coco andfoster mom to Chance...and at the bridge...our beloved Murphy
  5. Although Pharoah has gone to the bridge, it is nice toknow that somehow he planned for the future....somehow....he knew. i am sure of it. Pat L, when given Pharoah's poor prognosis, had contaced GHF of NJ to start looking for a dog for her. She wanted it placed in our prison program and was prepared to pay for its room and board until Pharoah left for the bridge. She didn't want to have more than a week or two with only one dog and a memory of her other black boy. Pharoah beat the odds and lasted well past the two months given to him....while the new greyhound was in training. Pat will be picking up her new forever friend "Beggar" well within the two weeks she wished for. I really think Pharoah hung in there until he knew Beggar was ready to come to Pat. Here is wishing Pat all the h appiness and healing these sweet dogs can bring them.
  6. Our little group of South Jersey volunteers for Greyhound Friends of NJ is crying for the loss of another friend today. You may remember a post I placed a few months ago asking for thoughts and prayers for 9 year old Pharoah who was diagnosed with cancer, and his guardian Pat Lamana. Pharoah lost his fight today. I visited him and his guardian last weekend, and as I sat on the floor to pet him he gently placed his head in my arms for a big hug, looked me in the eye and stayed that way for several minutes. After a bit he went to his bed. Although he always greeted everyone with a gentle tail wag, he was never overly demonstrative to me...the tears started as Pat and I made eye contact and it hit me that he had been saying good-bye. Needless to say my husband drove home that night as I could not see the road through the tears. Today I received this note from Pat. "Pharaoh is gone. he stopped eating yesterday, and was very weak this morning. he was able to walk to the car, and from the car to the vet's office, but collapsed once inside. i got a blanket from the car and put him on it, and he never got up again. we slid him into the exam room, and when the time came he just gently sighed. i was so worried i wouldn't know when it was time, but he did, and i'm thankful for that and the 7 years that he was my good bud." With Pharoah going to the bridge today, this makes the third hound in our little circle of friends to go to the bridge this year (Suzie Waddell, Kelly Belly Donohoe, and now Phoaroah Lamana) and makes those of us that have seniors hug them a little tighter. Please keep Pat in your thoughts and prayers. Be free and happy Pharoah as you wait with our other friends at the bridge!
  7. I am so sorry to hear of your loss.
  8. Nancy and Dick Waddell are unable to post this message. Their hearts are too full of memories of days gone by and grief. As their friend, I am posting it here for them. Suzi Waddell, the 20+ year old greyhound, beloved Queen of Dewey, took her final rickshaw ride this morning. Her body failed, her spirit never did. Anyone who knew Suzi, if only for a moment at Dewey, or saw her ride by in her rickshaw, or read one of Nancy's funny stories about her, couldn't help but be impressed by her zest for life. On one of her last outings at the park with our walking group, Suzi stood in the center of our greyhound pack as they ran around the playground enclosure. You could tell by the look in her eyes that she would have lead that pack at another time. As it was she just walked around a bit and watched...but none ran into her...she was SUZI!!!!She never missed a trick and played the heartstrings of her guardians like a symphony, and those hearts are broken tonight. Please keep Dick and Nancy Waddell in your prayers...and Suzi...Well she is now racing the wind, enjoying the feel of the sunlight on her face and reaching out to all of us to remember the seniors available for adoption....

So sorry for your loss. He was....and is....beautiful!!
  10. So sorry to hear of your loss. Take your time to grieve and then decide if another grey is right for you. Sometimes in grief you make a decision that you would wish to re-think later.
  11. So sorry to hear this news.
