  1. What a gorgeous boy! Congratulations!
  2. We have Trupanion, but from what I understand, it is more expensive than Healthy Paws. That said, they do pay 90% of invoiced cost for tests and treatments (excluding examinations, routine preventive care, taxes, and of course the deductible. Once a condition is established, there is continuity that does not change with anniversary or start of calendar year. So far I have nothing but good to say about them.
  3. That is certainly better news than expected. Thank you for the update, please let us know how things go!
  4. Is Dr. Stack still practicing? I thought she had retired.
  5. You could potentially ask your prior neuro if he knows the local one ahead of time, if your relationship is such that you feel you can do that. Will be thinking of you tomorrow. ETA: Assume there is a board certified anaesthesiologist who will be handling that end of things. Probably is, but you want to be sure, and it's worth confirming they are aware of greyhound idiosyncrasies.
  6. I have been through something recently with my senior girl that has some similarities - she had lameness in one limb (proprioception was fine though). Physical exam elicited a reaction in a location on her spine consistent with the lameness. X-rays pointed to a narrowing between two vertebrae that suggested disc compression. We elected to proceed with an MRI and it instead pointed to issues with ligaments and tendons. Apparent narrowing on x-rays not borne out by MRI. Before the MRI I was emphatic that surgery was the solution of last resort, and I hoped that other options, like meds possibly combined with rehab would be viable. In discussing the situation with my regular vet, she said that disc bulges were not only painful, but tended to get worse if left alone. She said if the neuro recommended surgery, her opinion was that it was worth proceeding. We were fortunate - never had to go there. But, we also knew this neuro is very, very good, and if surgery was needed, he was the right person to be doing it. Still, very relieved we didn't have to face that. If we had, we would have authorized it immediately following the MRI so it could be done under one anaesthesia. This is our story. Your situation, while it has similarities, is not the same. The one thing I would say is, given the choice between an MRI and a myelogram, I would always choose MRI - it is non-invasive and less risky. Sending good thoughts to you and your girl. In these situations it feels like there is no right answer, but a matter of determining which is the best among unwanted choices.
  7. She sounds like a delight. Hope she and Petunia can have visits once her person comes home.
  8. That looks so miserable. Hope he can be seen soon. Almost for sure needs a referral, but if you know who your vet in sending you to, you can probably call, make an appointment by telling the person you are speaking with that the referral is in progress, coming from <vet name, clinic name>, and that you are calling in the meantime as the site looks awful and your hound is very uncomfortable so you would like to secure the earliest available appointment. Please keep us posted, thinking about your boy and his worried mama. ETA: you might want to call and leave a message for your vet to call you back because you are concerned. Not sure about yours, but my vet often doesn't get a chance to see e-mails until after business hours, a phone so a call moves things forward faster.
  9. My non-vet instinct is this is not a simple infection. I'd be asking for a specialist appointment and hope to get him in as early in the week as possible. Meanwhile, hope the abx give him some relief.
  10. Thank goodness you caught it in time. Cletus, evidently your mom needs to feed you more of the real thing
  11. Sounds like you had a perfect birthday Aiden 1-4 Today you can have a long sleep with sweet dreams.
  12. Cletus Learning the important stuff quickly, smart boy!
  13. I've only had one dog with a histiocytoma, but it wasn't dark like that. I would take him in. Important you know what you are dealing with, so you can proceed accordingly. Best case scenario it is something that will go away on its own, and you have peace of mind knowing that.
  14. Agree. Better to know it's a histiocytoma rather than similar looking but much more serious alternatives.
  15. Thanks! After I chose content types and clicked Apply Changes, didn't look further and definitely would not have known to click the check mark. Thank you!
  16. Less a bug than a request: currently the system displays all content types by default when I click Unread Content. I've used the content type dropdown to narrow the types of information that get displayed, but those settings last only for the currently active session. Is there a way to have the system "remember" them from session to session? It does remember format (titles or title plus post) thanks, you said, to a cookie. I wonder if it is possible to do the same thing with these settings? Thank you! ETA: what I just said isn't accurate - it actually seems to reset to All Content every time I click Unread Content, even within the same session.
  17. Thanks. I am inclined to agree with both of you - I normally space things out and always give drugs with food unless it is specifically indicated not to. Currently thinking of the below schedule. I added a Pyrantel dose in the first half of the month since May will be the second month of treatment and apparently it takes 3 before the Advantage Multi achieves a steady state in the system. If anyone sees any issue with the following, or has a better idea, would appreciate the feedback. Day 1: Advantage Multi Day 4 or 5: Pyrantel (14 days after the last dose of Panacur during the previous month, depending on 30/31 day month ) Day 15: Nexgard Day 17 - 21: Panacur, with the addition of Pyrantel on the 21st
  18. We are battling hookworms and are currently using Dr Ng's protocol, which gives 5 doses of Panacur mid-month. We give Advantage Multi at the start of the month and Nexgard mid-month. Is it safe to give Nexgard and Panacur the same day? I can certainly give one at breakfast and the other at dinner. Thank you for your help.
  19. So glad she is safe. What a bizarre and terrifying thing to happen!
  20. Paddy was a multi-talented hound indeed, touching all who followed his Mayhem tales. Now keeping you on your toes with help from Annie.
