I went through this with Fiona when I first adopted her. She had a raging case of hook worms which led to soft poop, which led to impacted anal glands. Once we solved all the underlying problems and firmed up the poop her glands were able to express themselves. She hasn't had a problem with them in several years.

When I first had Fiona she had crystals in her urine (I also thought it was a UTI). The vet put her one of the Science Diet foods for about a month which cleared it up. That was 6 years ago and we have not had a repeat occurance.

One of my dogs ate some tea light candles. I blamed the wrong one until I saw the evidence in the other's poop. No ill effects.

Sammie the mutt has always been very reliably house broken. She can hold it forever and doesn't have to take final turn out with the greys if she doesn't want to. However, the past few weeks she has had some accidents in the house and hasn't indicated to me that she needed to go out. On Christmas Eve we were staying at my brother's house. Sammie sat down next to me and when she stood up there was a puddle on the rug. She hadn't squatted, it was almost as though she didn't know she had to pee. I took her out for a walk and then went to midnight mass. She and Fiona were alone for maybe an hour and a half and someone peed in my bed. I will try to get sample for the vet today but was wondering if the symptoms seemed familiar to anyone. I am not sure about Sammie's age because she was found as a stray; I guess she is 10 now and is spayed.

Is she food motivated? My basenj mix is a holy terror and no one believes she lets me brush her teeth. The secret is that I keep extra special treats here for after tooth brushing. After a few times Sammie got the message that after I brush her teeth, she gets a great treat (right now I am using dehydrated chicken breast). Now when I announce it is time for tooth brushing everyone runs to the bathrooom sink. The first few times you will only get a few teeth brushed but she should become more tolerant in return for the reward that follows.

If you have only had her three weeks it couldn't hurt to take sample to the vet and have her checked for parasites. Even though she was porbably treated by the adoption group, some types of worms require more than one treatment.

Been there; done that. No problem other than waxy poo.

I used to have an Irish Setter that loved to grab bars of soap off the sink. She always yakked it up later with no bad after effects.

When I first adopted Fiona she had pudding poo. She did have hookworms which took several treatments to finally get rid of. She still had the pudding after though. We tried several different kinds of food, even prescription dog food for a while. She did well on that but it was only available through the vet so not very convenient and expensive. The primary advantage of the prescription food was a high fiber content. Another poster suggested beet pulp which will add fiber. For us, we finally settled on Iams; she likes it and her poos are much more firm.

I don't think hook worm can be seen with the naked eye. The worms in the poop must be round or tape worms. I second the opinion that a sample should be taken to the vet so the exact worm can be identified.
