  1. Diane, I just saw your post - I am so sorry for your loss of Ripley.
  2. Welcome Bonnie!! This is a greyt group - you will find that the people here are always there for you - in times of joy, sadness, confusion, or whatever!! They will rally round you when you need it. Draco is a very handsome boy! Welcome again, to the wonderful world of GT and Greyhounds!!
  3. Yes, have removed them from dogs and horses. It really is as easy as Beth indicated. Sometimes, a stitch may feel caught - it's just the fact that there is a small scab or whatever.Just give it a little stronger tug. It really does not bother the critters at all!!
  4. I am having problems posting photos from Photobucket. I have the photos in an album, but am unable to copy the Image code - I have tried everything I can think of. If someone can help, I would really appreciate it.
  5. Yes, Lethbridge really is a jewel - close to the Rockies and Waterton National Park, in the middle of the gorgeous prairies, and winter Chinooks!! I see you're at the U of L - finished my degree there in 1974. quite small then, but loved it.
  6. Welcome, from a North Texan and former Lethbridgeite! Lived there years ago and still have a very close friend that lives there. She visits here about 4x a year and loves the Greys. But, she lives in a condo - so no big dogs! Love your fur kids and the coulies in the background - used to ride in them by the Old Man River!
  7. I made sure that my dogs got attention when the baby did - I would feed the baby and pay attention to the dogs at the same time. I found that I made a big deal out of the dogs when they were near the baby - never had any issues - granted, they weren't Greys, but Cairns and terriers can be very possessive and territorial .
  8. Welcome Kyle!! I live about 20 miles SW of Fort Worth. My assistance dog trainer lives in Waxahachie - it's not that bad a drive - straight down 67. You will find this site is wonderful - lots of greyt people and lots of info and humour!
  9. 6 weeks to the day of Foley's diagnosis. The night before she crossed the Rainbow Bridge, she was in so much pain and couldn't get comfortable. I just said to heck with it and loaded her up on her pain killers.
  10. So sorry for you and Manny having to go through this.
  11. What a moving tribute, both with the photos and what you said. So sorry for your loss!
  12. I do here - for all our critters - dogs, cats, horses. I get a feeling in the pit of my stomach that just won't go away.
  13. We always either crate the dogs or put the cats in our bedroom, even if we go into the yard - they don't show any interest in the cats - never have, but I hate tempting fate. In your case, I would leave one muzzled as you see what the other will do - too easy to develop a pack reaction if they are both unmuzzled at this point.
  14. Welcome! The first time I met my DH, about 32 years ago, our first conversation was about dogs and surprisingly, we both wanted an IW. However, we ended up with Borzoi for about 20 years. Then, we got a Greyhound rescue and now that is what we have. We adore all the large sight hounds!! We do love the Scottish Deerhounds too. Your dogs look great and I love the Roman nose!!
  15. So sorry. Run free Valor!!
  16. Oh Pepsi!!!! It is so hard to believe that 6 years ago tomorrow, you crossed the rainbow bridge. I still grieve for you and tears come to my eyes as images of you and your zest for life come to mind. I visit your grave and talk to you - I will always miss you and that special place you have in my heart is forever empty.
  17. I am so sorry to hear about Poodle, Pam. Those of our fur kids that have gone through a lot with us are so special.
  18. I am so sorry to hear this - we had our first and hopefully last experience with this awful disease in June. My thoughts and prayers for Flash and you as you make this journey.
  19. My Angel Grey, Foley, never did learn to play.
  20. There seems that in animals, certain colours are not highly thought of. In Standardbreds, grays have long had the reputation of being tough to handle. In Saddlebreds, Palominos and Pintos are thought to lack the quality that the "regular" colours have. In my experience, each animal is unique and colour is not an indication of mind or ability. For me, the last thing I look at in a Greyhound, or a horse, is the colour.
  21. Another thing to consider is a thyroid problem - our 10 year old JRT has thyroid issues and her coat is very thick and has become coarse too. She also sheds terribly. Our other JRT had a slick shiny tight coat and had no shedding to the same extent. Also an older horse we have has the same issue and when his levels are out of whack, his mane turns white and his coat, normally as slick as a mirror becomes very rough.
