  1. ac is useless just about everywhere. You learn after being attacked how to jump up and down and scream like a banchee when you see a loose dog coming!!! It works and people WANT to stay away from you b/c you are the crazy gh person!! LOL I tell ya, people are dumb. I used to have so many loose dogs come after us, or up to us and I would ask the owners to restrain them. If they did't respond I would say been in a dog fight and if your dog gets too close I will kick it away!! You had been warned.
  2. take pics and let the owner's know. I had something similar happen and my Floyd was bitten, long story but the owner of the house paid my vet bills and the dog who bit mine (who was 'a friendly' St. Bernard), was not allowed back on the property (complicated story).
  3. his behavior sounds good.... great sign. Was he licking his chest and jsut irritated the skin?
  4. not to make you worry but animals can get abscesses from injection site. Something to keep an eye on. best wishes for a speedy recovery for the old soul man
  5. Prayers for him. My sister just had a cat that was really sick come out of Tufts and is home and doing well. He is is in a great place.
  6. Yay, good news..... I am so glad it is a 4 legged ending. It will be a long and slow recovery, keep us posted.
  7. When my Liddy broker her toe the more wrapping I did, the more problems it created. My vet gave me an antibiotic powder to help keep the would dry and honestly, the less I wrapped the wounds the better it got. It is keeping the dog from licking the wounds that is the objective (but they say their saliva has good enzymes to help clean the wound??). I was fortunate to be a stay at home mom to my critters both skin and fur. I supervised her 24/7 until she could be alone and then I would dress the wound with a baby sock and a little tape to keep it up (loosely) and use one of those e-collars when I was not near her. Best of luck, it is a difficult challenge.

    a beautiful boy. hugs
  9. My Liddy has bad nails too. Her nails go every which way and are hard to keep short as they are all black nails. My vet in Germany said not to soften the pads??? Sometimes when a nail is jagged it rubs the toe next to it and we get a sore. Is he licking the toe? You may want to try covering it loosely with a baby sock taped around the ankle to keep it on. You will get air flow but less lickie, lickie..... My vet in Germany also gave me an antibiotic powder to put on/around toe to keep it dry. The vet in Germany also told me (i don't know whether to believe her or not on all of this but it is all interesting and no other American vet has offered this info) that all of Liddy's feet are hyper-extended (loose tendons). I can see that myself. She tears up her feet when she runs and it makes the already long toe nails even more of an issue. She said it was due to poor nutrition as a pup. This fits Liddy's profile as she was neglected as a pup...... I just try to keep the nails short, we have corns too and when walking I try and find soft ground for her.
  10. Gross, nothing like cleaning up someone else's mess. Ewww.....

Did the vet say it was a stroke? I had a cat, Zoe, who had similar symptoms.... she had a saddle thrombosis. Her feet turned blue. Long story.... but she too was euthanized. It is always difficult to lose a pet. I am sorry for you sudden loss. Sam was a beautiful cat.
  12. I have a cat that suffers from kidney disease that affects his brain. He definately has some dementia. He no longer uses the litter box and often cries as if he is lost in the house. We deal with it, i would never dream of putting him to sleep b/c of it. I just tell him he is lucky he is loved to tolerate the mess he brings me daily.
  13. My Lydia's toes go in every which way. None are pointed in the same direction and often when she runs in rough dirt she gets scrapes like that. I agree, she'd scream if she were in pain or limp.
  14. hugs BJ..... I am thinking of you, Black Jack and Major.....
  15. Sorry, I had to put my two cents (well sorta) in, this thread has been on my mind all day. It sounds like you did a lot but what about a no kill animal shelter? I too had this problem with one male cat. Luckily, I moved (almost was sued for the damage he did for the place I had rented). 6 years later, haven't had one problem with him and he is more like a dog than any of my greys have been (he follows me everywhere)! Also, there are people out there that will take animals with behavioral problems. I know a woman that has her screened porch dedicated to cats with spraying issues. It stinks out there but she deals with it. And, there is Best Friends Animal Society in Utah. Just some random thoughts...maybe this info could help someone else in a situation that is similar.
  16. Gee Robby, I can't believe it has been that long already. Hugs to you, I know it's hard. This December will be one year since I lost my Floydieboy. I still miss him terribly. I thought about lighting a candle that day, so he knows I remember him.

  19. Molly, you are certainly going through a tough time. Take things one day at a time. I am sure you are a strong person and you will endure all that has been dealt to you. Please give yourself lots of time to grieve over the loss of your Ted. When I lost Floyd, I was a mess. I couldn't even stomach the thought of coming here to GT. But I missed it so much. It is like I know people from this board and I missed hearing their stories, but the pain I felt when I did come to look, was so immense. That is when I asked admin if they could add the topic of Rememberance. At least I could sign onto to GT and look only here. So I still felt connected. Another website that can really help is the circle of greys. It is an email type list. But people there are going through really hard times with their ill hounds and there are people there who have lost hounds as well. It helped me a lot. Lots of support. It has been almost 6 months now since I lost Floyd and I still miss him and feel so much pain (and some anger, I had him only two days shy of a year) when I think about him. As far as the arthritis, there are many new meds on the market to help deal with the pain of the disease. My MIL has had RA since she was 15 and she still does amazingly well for herself. There just has been so much new knowledge gained recently in the field of RA. Take some time to let things sink in and then educate yourself. Don't rely on what one doctor says. They are human and don't know everything! Try and find a support group with those who have RA and that will lead you to some great resources, I am sure. Well, (((((hugs)))))))) to you. We will be thinking about you and hope to see you on the board when you are ready. Sincerely, Janet
  20. Oh Becka, I am so so sorry........This is such a difficult time, even after recently going through it, I don't know what to say to comfort you. Warm hugs to you. Time does help you, believe me..... There is a lot of support here and it does help..... Take as much time as you need but know that we are all here for you.... I bet Floyd is showing Spade how to play soccer and having a great time!!
  21. hugs to you for your loss of Boo
  22. There are no words to make it better Jackie....only time. ((((((((hugs)))))))))))
