  1. I've noticed that within a few days of being with us, Jeffy started touching the door to the garage (the way he goes to the yard) with his nose whenever he wants to go out. He will walk up to it and poke the doorknob with his nose. I keep thinking I should hang a bell there, he would get the idea no problem. He does the same thing with his 'treat drawer' when we come back from walks I usually give him a cookie, so now if I am too slow getting my shoes off etc he walks to the treat drawer and pokes it with his nose
  2. It is a bit of a tricky one because you don't want them to skip the step of growling, but then again you don't want to tolerate guarding. I kind of determine my reaction on what the growl is about. Stella growled at Faith for letting her 'walking pooh bear toy' walk toward laying down Stella, then got up and moved , I wouldn't reprimand Stella, she did the right thing, let Faith know she didn't like that and then gave ground and moved herself somewhere safer. Jeff growled (first time!) at Craig the other day, he was enjoying his first marrow bone and craig came around the corner, just planning to walk past, but since Jeff growled, resource guarding, he had to change plans from walking past to saying 'uh uh' and taking the bone. He got it back a few minutes later and it was taken and given back a few more times to make sure he got the idea. When I am going to take something I know is valuable, I always call the dog to me first, let him know it is happening rather than walk over and reach down.
  3. This is sort of off topic but still makes me laugh, so I'll share. I went to a medium once. This grandmotherly lady was awesome and blew my mind with the things she told me, a few even I didn't know and had confirmed by other family members and some really specific and direct messages. Midway through she says 'oh there is a little pudgy white poodle here' I was very excited 'that is Taffy my childhood dog, what does she have to say' And this woman who has spent the last hour talking to an invisible 'spirit guide' and telling me messages from beyond, looks at me, sighs and says 'sweetie I don't know, dog's don't speak'
  4. No he's a big tall bald guy actually we're back, with some antibiotic ointment and a 6 pack of revolution. Scratch with slight infection. The bump was the initial scratch puffing up. Darn puppy scratching my boy!! Vet was thoroughly smitten with Jeffy.
  5. Upon closer inspection I *think* the bump, which is no longer a bump, was where the rowdy pup caught him in the eyelid with a toenail. It now looks more like a small scratch/cut but I think originally it had swollen. Either way he is here at the office with me and going to meet his vet in about 20 minutes. I'll feel better after having it looked at and he needs to get some Revolution anyway. This is his first time coming to work with me, so far he is pacing and standing staring at my boss in front of his desk (boss is on the phone and trying not to laugh as Jeff tilts his head back and forth and stares at him)
  6. Yes, it is definitely annoying him as he is pawing at it. I have an appt for him for 930 tomorrow morning to get it looked at and be sure. It seemed to appear overnight and doesn't really look like the chalzion pics that I googled but who knows.
  7. What bendadryl dosage is appropriate for greys? It is a pink bump and the eye is bloodshot around it and it appeared suddenly so maybe a bug bite, or he was playing with my inlaws rowdy pup yesterday who kept jumping on him, if a nail caught him in the eye could it leave a pink bump looking thing?
  8. Jeffy has a pink bump on his eye, looks sty-like. Doesn't seem to be hurting him but perhaps a bit itchy. Any ideas. I'll be callng the vet in the a.m. but just looking for ideas????
  9. You need to meet Wonder's little girl, Passion, she is an olympic class whiner and really stinkin' cute My Jeff Gordon is a whiner too, DH is pretty sure that he somehow got a whistle lodged in his nose. He whines if the phone rings or he sees the vacuum cleaner. He whines if everyone leaves the room, he whines when we shut a door (like the bathroom or into the shower) and sometimes he just randomly whines. His favourite is the 'please get up' whine that he likes to start at about 5 am.
  10. How on earth did I miss this thread. Kristin I am so sorry to hear about Sutra's problems I hope the appt goes well and you get a clearer idea of where you are at and what you want to do next. I'll be thinking of you, the appt is tomorrow right?
  11. I am so sorry you have had so much to handle! Grief is sneaky in that you never know when it is going to ambush you, for me it was a piece of pizza. We finished our dinner and I was at my last bite or two of crust and I tossed it over my shoulder onto the floor. Faith and Craig both dropped their jaws and it hit me, she wasn't there and hadn't been for months, no one was waiting behind me to grab that crust. I burst into tears. one day at a time you'll get through it. Not over it, just through it. Keep reminding yourself it isn't goodbye, just see you later and boo boo and your mom are both together in the meantime. Hugs
  12. When I got Jeff Gordon I was the same way, asking his foster mama ridiculous questions that must have had her thinking 'umm hello you have done this before' after a short while I 'got my groove back' so to speak. I guess it is just you know 'your' dog so well that it makes you second guess the ability to know what works with a new one. You'll be just fine!!
