  1. Sir Ivanhoe aka Gizmo
    June 24, 2009-June 17, 2020

Our beautiful, sweet boy crossed the rainbow bridge this morning.  I know his Mama Pat was waiting for him.

We first met Gizmo when we fostered him for a month before he joined Pat.  He was a very frightened, shy boy so he stayed with us until he got used to being around strangers.  He didn’t come with a call name so Pat gave the honor of naming him to Kevin.  Kevin said he had gremlin ears so he named him Gizmo.  I promised Pat that if anything ever happened to her we would bring Gizmo back home and after Pat had her stroke and could no longer care for him Mike drove to Philadelphia and brought him back home.

He never ran a race, but he did get the chance to stand on the Southland track one year when we took him and his littermate Bandita to a reunion.

He was our sweet cuddly boy, so playful and would eat you out of house and home if you let him.

The Chondrosarcoma in his leg metastasized to his brain and the greatest gift we could give him was to let him go.  His 11th birthday is next Wednesday but we could not let him suffer until then.  His name will be on the birthday cake we get for Bandita.❤️

Much love and thanks to our wonderful vet Dr. Hezel who has been by our side during this journey with Gizmo.  She diagnosed him a year ago in April and we were gifted another 14 months with him.  Thank you so much Alisha for always being there for us.❤️

We love you now and always Gizmo and will see you again.❤️

  2. I’m so very sorry for your loss. I have lost 16 so far and have second guessed myself on every one right after the loss. Time has brought me the comfort of knowing I did the right thing. I hope in time you will realize you did what was best for your girl. She lived a long and happy life.

  3. Might be worth getting x-rays of his throat. I lost my Joey to a tumor in his throat. The only symptom was a cough that wouldn’t go away. We treated him for allergies, ruled out any heart problems did x-rays and saw nothing. Finally after several weeks and no improvement the vet did more x-rays and there it was, big enough to see but it took months. Might be worth having your pup scoped.

  4. You asked about 4Health, I use it for my four, I use grain free and the dogs do well on it. Just FYI, my little one Angel was very itchy. She was chewing her feet, got ear infections and my new vet suggested Cytopoint for her. It’s an allergy injection that lasts from 2-4 months. Her first shot was a complete success, no itching or chewing and totally stopped her ear infections. It lasted 4 months! She just went in last week for another shot because she started scratching and chewing her feet. Hopefully this one will last four months too!

  5. Thanks for all of the input. Still hoping someone recalls what I am talking about and points me toward it, but this is all helpful. I also came across a thread on FB last night that seems to indicate that hooks seem to be resistant to meds, but maybe in particular Drontal. It seems people are having success with Moxidectin, which is one of the two main ingredients in Advantage Multi so it makes sense that a lot of the newer protocols you are mentioning use it.

My kids got hooks from a dog that was staying with us. I fought them for months and then tried Moxidectin. It works very well. Two doses and we are all clear. It kills the eggs as well as the worms.
