Agreed, 100% Sounds like you've already received the reassurance you need, but I do also agree with those who say the incontinence due to LS is unlikely to be, in itself, indicative of increased pain. Thank you for being so patient with your sweet oldster. We should all be so lucky to have someone give us the loving care we need in our senior years. Give that sweet ol' boy-o a gentle smooch for me, please.

My heart goes out to you and Jeff, Trudy. I loved your little Jetterbug so much. I am so glad I got to meet her a couple of times. And I am envious of all the time you were blessed with together, throughout so many amazing adventures. She was, and forever shall be, beyond adorable.

Just seeing this now. I wish I had great advice, but alas... Any chance you're willing to try syringe-feeding for a while? I've done that with good success in the past. You can soak the kibble until soft, then liquefy in a food processor with warm water (adding in canned as well if you wish), until it's very smooth and liquidy enough for an oral syringe. The dogs I've done this with, have never put up a fuss about it, they just started swallowing as I slowly plunged the syringeful of food into their mouths.

He gained five pounds in a week? Wow! Yes, it is certainly possible that he could be depressed/understimulated if he spends a lot of time all alone at home. Some dogs do fine alone, and others really crave company. And yes, that can lead to inappetence which leads to weight loss. Presuming that you've already been through the wringer with blood tests and whatnot with your vet to ensure there's nothing more nefarious going on, of course. I know you've been trying to plant the seed with your family about a second dog. If you really think it's canine company that Jeffy needs, would it be possible to babysit your in-laws' dog for a while at your place? Just to sort of test the theory that it's company that Jeffy needs? Or maybe even trying a dog-walker mid-day to add some stimulation to his day... ?

Looks like a dental abscess. Time to go to the vet. Probably antibiotics first, followed by a dental and probable extraction. Poor guy.

The first greyhound I lost, Sissy, succumbed to T-cell Lymphoma. She went from being seemingly perfectly healthy, to dead within two weeks. I have no insight. I really don't even have much hindsight. Sometimes you just don't get lucky, no matter how hard you try or wish... Sometimes the cancer just rolls through too hard and fast to do anything about it. Medicine is never a perfect science. It's guessing and trial and error. Sadly it's the same for people as it is for animals. It's heartbreaking and enraging.
