They are investigating why Greyhound dogs have higher levels of the metabolite homocysteine compared to other dog breeds. They are looking to obtain blood and urine samples from healthy Greyhound and non-Greyhound dogs. Eligibility: Any clinically healthy adult Greyhound or non-Greyhound dog with no recent or chronic illness may be a candidate for this study. This study will help promote better understanding of a unique blood abnormality found within the Greyhound breed, which may help treat Greyhounds in the future. Results of this study may support followup studies on genetic mechanisms for this abnormality. Thanks. It hasn't happened that we know of since. Anything that seems unusual to us we worry about now. She is our second oldest greyhound ever. Poots dad was our oldest when we lost him at 14.

We are probably just overreacting, but Miriam is 13 years old and we worry about her. Tonight we noticed that Miriam's front left leg was twitching. At first we thought she was dreaming, but the twitching continued after we woke her up. As she has aged, Miriam seems to sleep with her eyes open more that she did when she was younger. She doesn't seem to be stressed or in any pain other than her old age aches and pains and stiffness. Has anyone else's greyhound have leg twitches as they age? Thanks from a worried mom and dad.

Christmas cards created and ordered

Back in 2015 we actually went on vacation (1st time in 10 years). We spent a week at my inlaw's cabin in Door County, Wisconsin. We are pretty sure it was the first time Pogo was ever anywhere fun (he was a bounce) and he was overjoyed bouncing, pogo'ng, and barking at most every dog he saw. We stopped to take some pictures of the sunset into Lake Michigan and left Miriam and Pogo in the van. Pretty soon we hear a dog barking its lungs out. We look and see Pogo barking at a standard poodle that was walking by with its human. Of course we never admitted to being the parents of the lound, obnoxious dog, because everyone knows that greyhounds don't bark. Later on that night (about 10pm) Pogo was lying on the couch and licking his foot. Got a closer look and found that he had ripped his dew claw. It wasn't really bleeding, there was only a small red spot where there was some dried blood. Since it didn't look bad, we waited till morning to find a vet. Surely we would be able to find a vet open on a Saturday, I mean Door County is just a long, narrow tourist trap where people stay in expensive hotels with their dogs, go out to eat, and shop. Of course we couldn't find a vet in the County. We ended up driving down to Green Bay. By the time we got there, Pogo already did his own surgery and completely removed the dew claw. The emergency vet took a good look at his paw, gave us some antibiotics in case of infection, and we were done. She felt sorry for us and did not charge us an emergency fee. I miss that boy so much!

I entered Miriam's information back in September. She is the 10,700th member of the Dog Aging Project Pack. I can't remember if I chose to do any related substudies. I didn't think they would accept her since she turned 13 at the end of September. Miriam is only our 2nd ever teenage greyhound.

So sorry for your loss. Believe me it does get better. Wags will always be a memory away.
