I had an episode like that with Bailey this past year. We never really figured out what happened, the best guess from the vet was that he had something stuck in his throat and was trying to clear it by alternatively throwing up and eating things. He tried to eat a stick, my jacket, a plastic bag, just as you describe. The vet wanted us to wait a bit then explore surgically if it did not resolve on it's own. It did resolve on it's own, after about 24-36 hrs, but it was scarey while it lasted.
  4. Sounds like a good start for Bodie, here's hoping he responds well and is with you a long long time. For your kitty, we have had great sucess treating small wounds like you describe right at home. I flush the wound 3x a day with saline solution and iodine(sterile, you can use the stuff made for contact lenses if you want) and I put preparation H (yes, really lol) on the wound morning and night to help it close. I usually cover wounds during the day, and leave them open at night but of course with a cat, you may have to keep it covered a lot more. We've saved a ton in vet bills using this method on both the cats and the dogs.
  5. I'm so sorry to see this thread - sending white healing light to Earl, and many healing thoughts! Hugs to you, and continued prayers for your daughter too.
  6. Sending tons of prayers and white healing light to your beautiful brave pupper.
  7. The best hands to be in, for sure. Sending lots of healing prayers for Bodie!
  8. I'm waiting for my flea stuff too, and spotted one on Romi - the people on my raw list are advocating DE for fleas, which really appeals to me. I've just started researching it, and I will let you know how it goes if I end up trying it. Diatomaceous earth
  9. I'm so very sorry about the diagnosis. Sending prayers you still have some quality time left with your Bodie.
  10. I was wondering when you'd weigh in . Thanks, Bill.
  11. Bailey dislocated his toe at the park one day, it totally freaked me out 'cause it looked so wonky. I went to the vet with him, and she took his paw in her hands to check it; he pulled his paw back and the toe popped back in. We had a good laugh, and no more trouble with that toe. I did put a lid on running for a few weeks afterwards.
  12. You would avoid the actual incision line, but I put it right up next to it, like an 1/8th of an inch away. Also, the gel is very cooling, more so than the cream, if you can get it. It is an alcohol based gel, and it did dry Lou's skin, so I used pure aloe gel after the first week to moisturize the dry areas.
  13. My Romi had an antibiotic resistant staph infection in his foot, we tried 3 rounds of AB over 3 months with very little improvement. Then I called my herbalist and asked for some help. His tincture plus some colloidal silver cleared the infection up in a week. Administering the herbal tincture was no fun, tho.
  14. Not that, but we've had great success with Traumeel gel (homeopathic topical treatment, combo remedy) it took Lou's bruising and swelling down beautifully, and also the homeopathic tinctures symphytum and arnica (internally). All of these would be excellent to use for a broken hock.

  18. First, Welcome to GT, and Humphrey is a real doll! I'm sorry you're going through this, it must be pretty scarey. We've had no broken bones here, but my Lou dislocated his hip last October, had ortho surgery, and has had a very long recovery, he's not done yet! - a break would have been healed a lot more quickly, I'm told. The hardest part is keeping them amused, so I hope your boy likes interesting treats! We found that things like recreational bones, or peanut butter mixed with dog biscuits, stuffed into a kong and frozen kept him busy. But I don't know if you guys have kongs over on that side of the puddle. In any case, I'm sending prayers for a rapid and uncomplicated recovery for your boy.
  19. Good boy, Rusty. He has good taste - turkey necks are great!
  20. Bless his heart, he looks all cozy and settled in!
  21. So glad Rusty is continuing to improve. He's quite a guy! As I understand it, after having heat stroke, puppers are not allowed to run again for quite a while, so he will have plenty of time to eat lots of taters when he gets home
  22. Totally awesome news! Way to go Rusty!
  23. A truly miraculous recovery! So glad she's home, sending prayers she continues to recover rapidly!
