  1. Oh no! My heart sunk when Carol told me the news. She was such a sweet, lovable girl. I'm so sorry. Hopefully these two are having fun together again.
  2. He can roach without choking! The difference is incredible.
  3. I'm so sorry. That picture with him and the ferret is one of my all time favorites. ETA - Carol, not Ryan. Forgot to log out.
  4. UOP School of Law in Sac. You went there?

  5. I don't have much to add except that one thing that worked with Mara for taking pills was brie cheese. Yes, brie. It sounds like Sutra is taking the PB, but just in case he decides he doesn't like it, there's always that option. Here's hoping he continues to do well and that the artemisinin works! ETA: Carol not Ryan...time to log out and log back in
  6. Lucy, this is so heartbreaking. You are doing the best thing for him to let him go while he is still happy. We lost both Matty (osteo) and Mara (megaesphagus)within the past year - Mara just 2 and a half weeks ago. Our wonderful vet came to our home for both of them, and I think that is the best for us. Both Matty and Mara were able to pass peacefully where they were most comfortable, and the other dogs were allowed to be around if they wanted to be. Neither was in the room when Mara passed, but Mara and Mork were near-by when Matty did. One thing that both devastated me and reassured me was that both greeted our vet with happy tail wags. Both had had very difficult a very difficult day prior to that, and while it killed us to see them excited at that point, it also helped to know that the left happy. Again, I am so so sorry. ETA - this is Carol again.
  7. I'm so sorry for this diagnosis. Continue to enjoy every minute and keep on spoiling him rotten. ETA - this is Carol. I didn't realize Ryan was logged on...but I know he's thinking the same thing.

    Mara

I still can't really believe I have to write this. Mara was pretty much the perfect first greyhound and dog, in general. The thing that was most amazing about Mara was the impression that she left on other people. Even people who typically didn't care much for dogs could not help but fall in love with her well-behaved, sweet, happy, and adaptable personality. She changed a lot of people's pre-conceived notions of how greyhounds act, and even in her last days, she convinced a vet tech to adopt a greyhound. I miss her a lot. First pic I saw of Mara: Can't believe they are both gone in less than a year.
  9. Mork started his meds on August 1st. Because he had such bad toe issues, we didn't really see any increased energy until his bum toe came off, and he was really able to walk and run. That said - he is now a new dog, and was after about 4 months. It may have taken less time to see results if he wasn't in so much pain with the toe. We also have noticed that he seems to have a much less doggy smell, and his coat looks a lot better. Those changes were noticeable in 2 months or less. He's on .6mg of levothyroxine 2 times a day. ETA - this is Carol, too lazy to log into my account.
  10. Yes, in a heartbeat. We just went through this with Mork, and I wish I did it a year ago. It was a back weight-bearing toe, and we agonized over the decision - it was the best thing we ever did for him, and we also tried everything - hulling, laser, bee propolis, dremeling, everything...
  11. Now I am become death. The destroyer of worlds.

  12. I don't get how comments are showing up from 2007.

  13. Caddywhompus! I hope this helps the big fella.
  14. Morky wears Therapaws on all feet when walking. He's got corns on three feet, and the non-corn foot has an old racing injury, so it's really the only way he can walk at all. They are worth their weight in gold.
  15. Very sorry to hear this news. It will be a lot quieter around here without her.
  16. I thought that with some time I could come up with a fitting tribute, but words really can't express how big of a piece of our little family is missing now that Matty is gone. I feel cheated. Cheated that I only had 2.5 years with her, and that OS robbed her of all the things she loved to do most in her last days. But I will not allow those things to cloud my fond memories of her. She will always be the crazy spinner, bag shredding, howling at the door, fun police Matty Beast to me. I remember when Matty met Mara for the first time. Against all GH protocol, they met on Matty's turf, without muzzles. Matty was so excited to see Mara she drooled down Mara's entire back. I knew right then those two knuckleheads would be like peas in a pod. And they were. It's a shame they could not live out their "Golden Years" together in a Mork-free household (just kidding Morky). Matty didn't just exist. She attacked each and every day with a vigor and vitality that is painfully missing from our home now. It's a comfort knowing that we made the most out of every day with her, if only because she left us with no choice! Time will heal and other dogs may come and go, but nothing will replace the void created by her untimely departure. And maybe that is the ultimate expression of how much she meant to us. We love and miss you!
  17. Way too many, and, unfortunately, I must add our Matty to this awful list.
  18. This is a long post - please bear with me. Mara has been in pain since early Thursday morning, and the vet "has no clue" what is causing it. Background - Wednesday night Mara and Matty had a very heavy play session in the back yard. Mara did a lot of hard running, but nothing out of the ordinary for her. Beginning in the early hours of Thursday morning, she would intermittently scream in pain. We assumed it was Matty, since it's usual for her to get stiff and sore after running and she's a bit of a baby. After I got up Thursday, Mara jumped off the chair and let out a scream. But there was no limping, and no indication of anything being hurt, besides maybe a muscle tweak. She walked just fine that morning. But through out the day, she seemed to be experiencing more pain as indicated by her screaming. However, there was no associated limp, and I had no idea what was hurting her. Thursday evening she ran over to me and was pretty excited about something, then just started with the gsod over and over and she ran 3-legged back to her bed, holding her back left leg up. She didn't get up to eat Thursday night, and we had to feed her in bed. Friday she seemed better and didn't show any signs of pain all day. She got up to eat, and seemed ok until a little later on when she tried to stretch. She let out a scream as she stretched her back legs out, but still showed no limping when she walked. Sat and Sun, more of the same. She walks around the back and uses the bathroom, no limp or favoring the leg. Then, suddenly, with no warning, will scream and hold her leg up. X-rays and radiologist ruled out osteo, breaks and dysplasia. The vet examined her pretty thoroughly, and ruled out LS as well, because of no pain while manipulating the tail, no neurological deficit, and sudden onset. The vet narrowed the problem to her hip. Blood work is back Wed. The vet thinks soft tissue injury, but Rimadyl and Tramadol don't really seem to effecting the injury either way. She is very depressed and afraid to get up. Any ideas on what this could be?
  19. My sister's grey ended up with a GI bleed after about a week. I'm not sure if she gave with food or not. But after being treated, she did continue with it (Zoe has cervical calcifications, and has chronic pain), and she has been ok. However, after a time, her renal and liver function labs did rise. Carol
  20. This just happened to Matty 2 weeks ago (her leg went into a drainage grate on the road). It healed up amazingly well with 8 stitches. I will be wishing the best for cougar Carol

    So sorry to hear this.
  22. The Insert Link, Insert Picture, Insert Email icons are not working in both the New Topic and reply windows. In fact, that whole toolbar is dead. This is happening to another person as well, so it's not just me.
