  1. Our 7 year old Buttercup had a bunch of seizures yesterday. I'm told it could be a brain tumor or some other cancer, among other possibilties. So far all blood work has come back normal. She's at the evet overnight. We'll know more when we pick her up to transfer her to our regular vet in the morning as to whether or not she's suffered any permanent damage. Just curious, for anyone who has or had a Greyhound develop seizures later in life, what was the age, the cause and the outcome?
  2. I am so very sorry for your loss. So sad and tragic.
  3. I assume from the Xrays your vet has ruled out megaesophagus? My 11 year old boy Chase has had it for over two years. It was caused by hypothyroidism and is now well managed for the most part. Below is a recipe for Knox Blocks, which dogs with megaesophagus use as a fluid replacement. You might try this until you figure out what's going on with your pup. Good luck. GELATIN BLOCKS Gelatin Blocks are a wonderful way to provide your ME dog with hydration if water is on the NO-NO list. They also make a nice treat on hot days! You Need: 1 cup cold low sodium chicken or beef broth (to make it tasty for your pup!) 4 packages of unflavored gelatin 3 cups of boiling liquid (You can use more broth here, combined with water, or just more water) Make it: Pour a cup of cold broth into a 9 x 11 or 9 x 13 baking pan Sprinkle 4 packages of gelatin into cold broth and stir Add 3 cups of boiling liquid and stir until the gelatin is dissolved Refrigerate until solid - approximately 3 hours Slice the firm gelatin into pieces (squares of a "swallowable" size per your pup) Refrigerate until used

  7. Before I switched vets, the supposedly greyhound savvy one we were seeing used a combination of acepromazine and butorphanol to sedate two of our greys (at different times) for x-rays. The first one, Rufus, had had a stroke but because he couldn't walk right the vet was hung up on osteo and wanted to x-ray his leg. The side effects from the drug cocktail were far worse than the stroke itself and took about 13 hours to wear off. I thought he might not survive. Because Rufus had had a stroke, I wasn't sure that the symptoms I was seeing were from the drugs until they also sedated Reggie to xray his foot a few months later and he had about the same reaction. No way in hell I would let a vet use either of those drugs on my greys again. Rufus and Reggie were terrified and so were we.

  13. http://www.lambertvetsupply.com/Rx-Vetmedin-pimobendan-Chewable-Tabs-10mg-x-50ct_p_7576.html Chase has been on it since May. I looked EVERYWHERE and this is the cheapest I've found from a reputable seller. After a $1 surcharge, less a $5 coupon that they keep emailing me, it's $80.99 with free shipping. Their customer service is great also.
